- Hire, supervise, and evaluate Safety Advocates to ensure high performance.
- Manage Safety Advocate assignments, including daily coverage and overtime for special events or rentals.
- Oversee the purchasing and distribution of Safety Advocate uniforms.
- Conduct regular training sessions for Safety Advocates, aligned with regional and national best practices (e.g., ALICE, Active Assailant response, etc.).
- Develop, update, and oversee implementation of School Emergency Plans (All Hazards Satellites).
- Maintain and revise the District All-Hazards Plan.
- Design and update evacuation plans, routes, and MOUs with non-district locations as necessary.
- Manage and oversee drill coordination, tracking, and evaluation while assisting school leaders with logistics and planning.
- Develop and implement a district-wide reunification plan, including annual drills in coordination with the CT Center for School Safety at WCSU.
- Support School Safety Teams and provide consultation as needed.
- Implement security protocols at DHS WEST.
- Maintain emergency preparedness supplies, including Classroom Go Bags, flashlights, vests, bullhorns, water, and blankets.
- Develop and distribute updated safety handbooks and "flipcharts" for district personnel.
- Maintain an organized incident command protocol and response structure.
- Provide leadership and support during emergency incidents as part of the district’s Incident Command Team.
- Oversee installation, maintenance, and upgrades of security cameras.
- Maintain security desk computers and software in coordination with the IT department.
- Manage the Raptor Visitor Management system, ensuring proper hardware function and coordinating with IT for troubleshooting.
- Oversee purchasing and maintenance of security equipment, including radios, batteries, and repeaters.
- Coordinate purchasing and installation of security-related items such as window shades and signage.
- Manage building signage and parking assignments across district locations.
- Assist with fire panels and alarm systems in collaboration with city public buildings.
- Conduct district-wide building audits and threat assessments.
- Collaborate with Danbury Police Department, Fire Department, and Office of Emergency Management.
- Work with city agencies to enhance district-wide emergency preparedness.
- Coordinate School Resource Officer (SRO) responsibilities with Danbury PD.
- Participate in Region 5 Safety and Security meetings.
- Maintain a strong relationship with the CT Center for School Safety and integrate best practices.
- Research, apply for, and manage grants and funding opportunities for safety initiatives.
- Oversee vendor billing, purchasing, and grant reimbursement processes.
- Verify payroll and timesheets for Safety Advocates.
- Ensure the collection and return of security-related materials from departing employees in coordination with HR.
- Complete the NCEF State Compliance Checklist and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements.
- Conduct investigations related to vandalism, theft, and other security incidents.
- Lead after-action reviews and incident reporting following security-related events.
- Organize and facilitate quarterly District Safety Team meetings.
- Conduct residency checks and investigations as needed.
- Present an annual Safety and Security Update to the Board of Education.
- Identify available self-assessment tools to evaluate ongoing preparedness.
- Ensure timely submission of all mandated local, state, and federal reports related to safety and security.
- Collaborate with the District Finance Director to develop both short-term and long-term security budgets.
- Represent Danbury Public Schools at local, regional, and national school safety meetings and conferences.
- Minimum of five years of experience in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, law enforcement, fire services, or a related field.
- Experience developing and implementing school safety plans, preferably in accordance with the CT “All Hazards” template.
- Experience supervising personnel and managing teams, preferably in a union environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to crisis situations and work collaboratively with multiple agencies.
- Knowledge of relevant security technology, including surveillance systems, communication equipment, and access control systems.
- State or federal certifications in security, emergency management, or public safety.
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field is preferred; a graduate degree is a plus.
- Experience applying for and managing security-related grants and funding.
- NIMS Training certification is preferred.

Position Overview:
The Coordinator of Safety and Security is responsible for overseeing the safety, security, and emergency preparedness of all Danbury Public Schools buildings and offices.
