What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm to School Coordinator position at Danbury Public Schools?
The Danbury Public Schools serves a diverse community of over 12,000 learners across 20 school locations city-wide. The District is embarking on a multi-year Farm to School Initiative to increase fresh vegetables and fruit in school meals, increase knowledge of kitchen staff in preparation techniques, incorporate gardening activities in classroom activities and encourage community members to partake in gardening and activities included in this initiative.
Scope :
The Farm to School Coordinator will fully implement the 2025 CT Grown for CT Kids Contract. The position includes managing and overseeing a variety of activities including expansion of gardens at 3 schools, working closely with Sodexo to plan new food tasting at several schools, scheduling of volunteers, ordering of materials, collecting data and reporting on activities, and technical support for the gardens with support from the Director of Family, School, and Community Partnerships.
Primary Responsibility :
- Manage and oversee a variety of activities including expansion of gardens at 3 schools
- Work closely with food service provider to plan new food tasting at several schools
- Scheduling of volunteers and community members to work in the gardens
- Ordering of materials and supplies for the gardens and family events
- Plan and execute family learning nights / Saturdays that are aligned to curriculum
- Collect data, and report on farm to school activities
- Attend planning meetings and conferences as required per the contract
Qualifications :
This is a grant-funded position beginning Feb. 17, 2025 and continuing through Feb. 1, 2026. The Project, and this Coordinator position, may continue based on the availability of additional funding for subsequent periods.
Hours : up to 24 hours per week may include evening and Saturday hours.
