Overview of Role

Danbury Student and Business Connection (DSABC) is seeking a dynamic Outreach/Program Assistant to join our growing team. The assistant will work directly with the Executive Director and designated school liaisons to support the efficient day-to-day operations and ambitious growth plan for DSABC’s cornerstone one-on-one mentorship program. Tasks will include reviewing mentor sign-in sheets, data entry, following up on outstanding paperwork from stakeholders, ensuring the mentorship program is running smoothly at each school, and identifying areas of opportunity and improvement at all levels. As a first project, this position will spearhead the execution of DSABC’s alumni program and support students during the scholarship application process.

The perfect candidate is detail oriented, and a self-starter who can successfully manage their time and multiple projects simultaneously. Experience working in a nonprofit organization or school setting is preferred, but not required. Bilingual (English & Spanish/Portuguese) is a plus.

Work Hours: 10-15 hours per week; schedule follows Danbury Public Schools calendar. Nights and weekends as needed.

Must be willing to participate in events in the Greater Danbury area and visit Danbury schools regularly, with administrative work able to be completed remotely. Most of the work to be completed during the week day hours of 8am - 3pm.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with DSABC school liaisons to ensure program’s effectiveness and to promote growth. Identify areas of improvement and opportunity. Assist with survey development and execution.
  • Serve as an ambassador for DSABC’s mission in schools and the local community. Attend and participate in Danbury Public Schools events and community events to spread awareness and identify potential participants for one-on-one mentorship.
  • Assist parents, guardians, and school staff on completing the referral forms for students accurately and ensure all paperwork is completed.
  • Data entry: adding volunteer hours; communications with schools, mentors, and parents; uploading permission slips; updating status of matches; survey answers; etc.
  • Cultivate relationships with past and current mentees, and serve as a resource for graduating seniors and alumni.
  • Assist in creating flyers, forms, surveys and presentations related to current programming.
  • Support recruitment efforts (mentors & mentees), fundraising efforts, end of the year breakfast, and community relations events.
  • Support other programs as needed (Career Speaker Series, College field trips, Mentor appreciation events, etc.).
  • Utilize a continuous improvement mindset by recommending improvements to process/procedures.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned and special projects as designated.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite.
  • Familiarity with Databases, Social Media platforms, especially LinkedIn, and Canva.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effectively communicate with a diverse population (students, parents, businesses, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently with little supervision.

Preferred by not required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (education, social work, communications).
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish or Portuguese).
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization or school setting.
