LTE General Laborer positions at the Alliant Energy Center are a part of a pool of staff who are used for surge staffing needs.  The department maintains an ongoing recruitment for LTE General Laborers in order to hire periodically as additional staff are needed.  Supervisors review applications and contact applicants for interviews when there is a need to add LTE staff.  

 

Limited Term Employees (LTEs) are limited to 1,200 hours in a payroll year and are not guaranteed any hours per week.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, will perform a variety of routine manual tasks in the operation of the Alliant Energy Center.   Ranging from cleaning, sanitizing, grounds-keeping, snow removal, event set-up and minor maintenance duties involved in keeping county facilities clean and operational.  Also, may serve as backup to other position(s).
 
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs basic cleaning including trash removal, sweeping, cleaning waste receptacles, dusting, window and wall washing, furniture cleaning, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, and restroom cleaning in offices, meeting rooms, reception areas, and other facilities as assigned; performs complex cleaning procedures including stripping, sealing, waxing, buffing corridors, various levels of carpet cleaning, and project cleaning as assigned; maintains outside building entrances, surrounding walks. Conversion/set-up Crew: Set up and tear down chairs, stages, booths, stalls, flooring and other facilities erected for shows and events, including ice shows, basketball games, stage productions, conventions, meetings, horse and cattle shows, fairs and similar indoor and outdoor events; perform ground work including mowing lawns, trimming and maintaining shrubbery, laying sod, planting and caring for flowers and trees; perform snow and ice removal from grounds, walks and parking areas; performs a wide variety of cleaning and general building maintenance duties; operate equipment such as power mowers, forklifts, trucks, ice refinishers, etc.Education, Training and Experience
Any combination or training and experience equivalent to one (1) year in janitorial.  Able to read, write and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and product labels. 
 
Special Requirement:  
Shifts/schedule will vary according to the Center's event schedule and are usually but not restricted to 6 am to 2:30 pm, 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, or 12 am to 8:30 am. There is no guarantee of hours for LTE positions.
 
Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job’s responsibilities. Wisconsin’s Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position’s responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant’s criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.). Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.
 
Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:  
This position is active for the entire shift (standing, walking, stooping, twisting, lifting, bending, pushing, reaching, climbing, crouching and crawling). Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and heavier loads with assistance. May be required to operate heavy equipment, move furniture and work from safety ladders. Must have the ability to use hands/feet for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling and operating controls and equipment. Incumbent will work in all areas of the county and is therefore subject to a wide variety of conditions that will change daily. On a daily basis exposure to temperature variations or extremes, chemicals, odors, toxic agents, noise, vibrations, wetness, machinery and/or dust may cause discomfort but poses little risk of injury. On an infrequent basis, exposure to blood and/or body fluids.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be safety conscious at all times regarding the safety of self and the safety of others. Must be able to work around others and with other employees as a team member. Must have functional reasoning skills and the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Must have general knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Mental ability to address potential adverse or negative situations that may arise from time to time. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with members of the public, county employees and elected officials. Ability to hear and see within normal ranges. Ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, to accept constructive criticism and to be able to project a positive image of the facility to customers. Ability to accept responsibility and work with minimal supervision as assigned. Must be dependable, reliable and have a previous history of good attendance and punctuality. Must be able to attend staff meetings and training meetings as required. Knowledge of or ability to learn how operate light to medium equipment. Knowledge of or ability to learn how operate ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.
