The Manager of Product Development will be responsible for managing, driving, and tracking the product development process from concept through execution. As a key member of the product development team, they will support the vision of the brand founder and work cross-functionally with packaging, quality, regulatory, operations, project management, marketing, creative, customer service, and sales. They possess an innate passion and curiosity for cosmetic products, a depth of knowledge in color cosmetics, have a developed eye for color and shade nuances, and demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills. They will support the ideation, development, testing, claims substantiation, and execution of formula and packaging to deliver innovative and remarkable products across the brand portfolio. This role will report to the Director of Product Development. This position is onsite, located in Farmingdale, New York.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with brand founder, SVP, director, and cross-functional teams to develop and drive new products and reformulations from concept to launch.
  • Support the creation of detailed product briefs and manage/track formula submissions and batch approvals with contract manufacturer partners while ensuring internal stakeholder alignment.
  • Manage formula development, creating disruptive and unique products, ensuring projects are delivered on time with the highest level of quality, meet all desired claims and benefits, possess a point of difference, and align with the brand ethos.
  • Manage and drive weekly internal and external development meetings through coordinating schedules, creating meeting agendas and recaps, reviewing & evaluating submissions, and tracking key approval and milestone dates.
  • Manage primary and secondary packaging artwork requests, track and review artwork mechanicals and ensure review and approval by key stakeholders.
  • Work closely and maintain open communication with cross-functional teams including quality, project management, operations, packaging, regulatory, marketing, and creative to ensure programs are tracking to dates and milestones.
  • Manage category-specific shade analyses and work closely with director to identify shade gaps and create data-driven shade lineup recommendations.
  • Partner with product marketing on competitive analyses and social media trends and compile with brand portfolio insights and present learnings to key stakeholders.
  • Lead product ideation sessions identifying trends, market needs, and brand alignment.
  • Attend on-site formula and shade approvals as needed; including lab development, piloting, line trials and production start-up as needed.
  • Create product profiles, educational materials, and retailer specific documents.
  • Manage and coordinate regulatory and formula testing needs (including safety, functionality, clinical, and consumer testing) to support claims substantiation for new product launches, while ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Support global registration by compiling required documents and partnering with regulatory and sales teams.
  • Support implementation of processes that ensure the vision for the product is clear, all teams are aligned, and that the project is executed successfully.
  • Streamline and coordinate participation in industry events, trade shows, summits, and vendor meetings that showcase innovation and newness.
  • Stay abreast of competitive product activity and launches and upkeep portfolio gap analysis.
  • Maintain pristine organization of all files, upkeep project bins, standards and submissions.

  • You’re flexible. You possess the ability to pivot and adapt to new processes and ways of working as needed for a growing business and you thrive in a dynamic entrepreneurial environment.
  • You’re knowledgeable about product execution. You have hands-on experience within formula and package development of color cosmetic products, have a developed color eye and have a demonstrated track record of successful product execution. You possess a knowledge and understanding of industry regulations and testing requirements for cosmetic products.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5 years’ experience in product development for color cosmetics
  • Experience working on indie brands, (working with founders a plus)
  • Experience in package and artwork development
  • Experience in safety testing and claims substantiation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective collaboration skills
  • Ability to understand and adhere to timelines and deliverable expectations
  • Experience managing contract manufacturers and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers
Judgment And Decision Making
The ideal candidate would be able to operate successfully with intermittent supervision, yet able to flexibly collaborate closely as needed with cross-functional partners & senior management at DMB. Sound judgment, discretion & decision-making skills are of utmost importance.

Other Essential Requirements
Ability to travel on site for batch and shade approvals, scale-up and production as needed.
