Position Summary
Reporting to the DOC Director of Safety, the Safety Manager will be responsible for the organization and implementation of Company safety expectations as required by management and various compliance organizations. As a member of the Safety Team, this critical role involves providing safety leadership to assigned projects, ensuring the delivery of safety orientations, conducting safety audits, and handling incident analyses and workers compensation matters.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide safety leadership to assigned projects.
- Ensure constant communication with assigned projects and the Willimansett Yard regarding scheduling look-ahead(s), pre-construction meetings, hazard identification and mitigation, safety training/planning needs, and provide guidance and recommendations as needed.
- Ensure delivery of safety orientation to all new hires with assistance from the onboarding team.
- Review Job Safety Analyses and other pertinent safety plans for completeness.
- Work with subcontractors and project teams to ensure understanding of safe work practices designed to reduce/eliminate/control hazards associated with their work.
- Deliver applicable training and awareness information.
- Conduct weekly safety audits through our digital platform.
- Attend project meetings and understand upcoming work to ensure proper planning and execution.
- Confirm proper setup of safety administrative documents and provide continuous safety support.
- Ensure safety audits are completed and distributed, noting positive findings along with areas for improvement and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Initiate and assist project teams in completing thorough incident analyses for unplanned events such as injuries and property damage.
- Perform incident follow-ups and handle workers compensation matters under the direction of the Director of Safety.
- Participate in the company’s continuous improvement program.
- Develop, strengthen, and maintain a high level of competence in construction safety.
Position Qualifications
- Have solid written and verbal communication skills along with a strong work ethic.
- Have the ability to access all points of a construction site such as but not limited to confined spaces, elevated heights, ladders, etc., in wide-ranging climates and environments including adverse weather conditions.
- Capable of working independently to determine priorities in a self-directed manner.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- The ability to travel within the greater North East Region, with some overnight stays, is required as this position will be 85% field work. Must have valid driver’s license.

Education & Experience
- Four year degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering or similar
- 3- 5 years of construction safety experience preferred.
- Must have strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Must be able to perform internet research.
- Must be willing to obtain CHST designation within two (2) years of appointment
- Must hold an OSHA 30 construction certification and be certified in First Aid/CPR/AED
