What are the responsibilities and job description for the Anticipated High School Special Education Teacher position at Danvers High School (DHS)?
High School Special Education TeacherReporting to School PrincipalRoles and Responsibilities
Administer and interpret formal and informal assessments to evaluate student learning profiles and monitor progress, ensuring adherence to mandated timelines under state and federal special education law (IDEA and 603 CMR 28.00).
Design and deliver instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and individualized to meet the diverse academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of students with disabilities.
Actively participate in the development, review, and revision of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including annual reviews, three-year reevaluations, and initial eligibility meetings.
Develop IEPs that include measurable annual goals, benchmarks/objectives, accommodations, modifications, and service delivery in compliance with IDEA, DESE guidelines, and district protocols.
Implement evidence-based instructional strategies and specially designed instruction aligned with IEP goals and objectives, and monitor fidelity of implementation.
Collect, maintain, and analyze ongoing progress monitoring data to inform instruction and determine student progress toward IEP goals.
Provide timely and data-informed progress reports in accordance with the IEP service delivery grid and district timelines.
Ensure full compliance with all components of the IEP and maintain accurate and confidential student records as required by federal and state law.
Serve as the liaison for assigned students, facilitating communication among families, staff, and service providers, and coordinating individualized schedules and services as appropriate.
Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure students have access to the general curriculum and appropriate supports, including co-teaching, consultation, and curriculum modifications.
Deliver direct instruction in small groups, 1:1, or inclusive classroom settings based on student needs, ensuring alignment with IEP services and Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) guidelines.
Provide training, modeling, and consultation to Instructional Assistants and general education staff to support the implementation of students' IEPs and inclusive practices.
Establish and maintain a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment through consistent implementation of proactive behavior strategies and individualized behavior support plans, as needed.
Participate as an active team member in school-based meetings, including IEP Team meetings, Student Support Teams, and professional learning communities.
