Accountability Objective
The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for taking the necessary steps in promoting and maintaining a safe environment for Danville Area Community College. The Incumbent provides an excellent example of customer service skills and promotes public relations with students, faculty, staff and visitors in all of his/her responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
Prior experience in a security related field
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively, prepare reports, analyze situations, and perform other duties as required
Valid driver’s license, ability to pass a comprehensive background check, and have or obtain PERC Card
Position(s) will a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays and special assignments as necessary.
Desired Qualifications
Prior experience as a Law Enforcement Officer in a Police Department, Department of Corrections, and/or Military experience. Associate Degree

Essential Job Function
Essential Job Function
Maintain and monitor on-campus safety and security pursuant to college policies, state, and federal law.
Be an excellent role model of customer service and helpfulness to campus faculty, staff, student, and College customers.
Provide safety and security through parking and traffic enforcement and routine patrol.
Provide assistance to emergency vehicles arriving on the College campus.
Support department leadership with the enforcement of federal, state, and college policies.
Provide customer service and assistance to staff, students, and visitors with vehicle problems.
Manage daily activities with minimum supervision, holding trust of department co-workers and supervisors.
Monitor the fire control system and exercise judgment and discretion in contacting the proper authorities and service contractors.
Provide necessary support in compliance and care of college American and State flags
Vigilance in reviewing, observing, and reporting to the proper authorities, unusual circumstances and incidents including the operation of the campus video surveillance system.
Provide support with all necessary investigations on campus as necessary.
Provide support and in some cases oversight of special event security and traffic control detail.
Ability to work outside in the elements as well as standing/walking for long periods as necessary.
Unlock buildings and room doors as necessary for special activities throughout the year.
Maintain communication with the Veterans Administration on special events and/or special circumstances.
Ability to monitor and operate video surveillance, door access systems, and additional security technology located on campus during shift.
Ensure compliance with federal and Illinois laws regarding campus safety including FERPA, GLBA, HIPAA, Red Flag, and Clery.
As a DACC Administrator and employee, understand and follow Board of Trustees policies and College procedures.
Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Campus Safety
