GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Student Information System Coordinator, the Data Analyst is responsible for providing data analysis and operational support to Danville Public Schools’ internal student information systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Responsible for maintenance, data entry, data collection, and reporting within Student Information Systems
· Responsible for migrating data between information systems from various vendors
· Responsible for automating data flow
· Responsible for collecting, troubleshooting, and preparing for upload data for various state and federal reports
· Responsible for user training and troubleshooting Powerschool Student Information Systems
· Responsible for running various student information reports
· Assist in creating master schedules at Elementary, Middle, and Secondary level schools
· Assist in creating, extracting, and printing report cards, transcripts, and other school-level reports
· Assist in printing of payroll and Accounts Payable checks, W2s, and other sensitive documents
· Analyze business practices and make recommendations for enhanced efficiency.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Knowledge of Student Information Systems (PowerSchool preferred)
· Knowledge of relational databases and reporting (Oracle/MS SQL/Access/SAP Crystal Reports and Cognos)
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (macros, formulas, data manipulation and presentation) and Access (imports/exports)
· General knowledge of accounting practices and terminology
· Knowledge of Electronic Data Transfer (EDI) and data integration among internal and external systems
· Must be a strong team player with the ability to work independently when required
· Must have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively train coworkers on complex IT systems
· Must be able to adapt to changing IT systems and job functions
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a community college with an Information Systems Technology degree in Computer Programming or Database Administration
· Experience with business programming languages (JavaScript, vbscript, SQL, html, etc.)
· Certification in Application Development or Database Administration is preferred
· Prior experience in supporting K-12 or higher education IT systems preferred
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND WORK CONTACTS
Frequent contact made with individuals from other internal organization units or outside organizations. Communication is usually cooperative in nature, with infrequent conflicts resolved by higher authority. Job requires frequent standing, walking bending, stooping, and medium/heavy lifting.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
12 months (260 days); 8 hours per day
EVALUATION
Performance evaluation will be conducted annually by the Student Information System Coordinator on the effectiveness by which the employee has carried out the above responsibilities.
