GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director of Maintenance and Operations, the Custodial Supervisor is responsible for supervising custodial staff in maintaining safe and clean school buildings and facilities for students, staff, and visitors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plans, assigns, trains and supervises the work of the Head Custodians and custodial staff in collaboration with school Principals.
- Ensures buildings are maintained in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition.
- Provides input to school Principals for the completion of annual performance evaluations on all custodial staff under their supervision.
- Report emergency repairs by phone and regular repairs via work order request.
- Maintain adequate inventories of supplies and materials and ensure needed items are purchased and delivered to schools and facilities.
- Maintains operational supplies in secured areas to prevent pilferage.
- Performs all duties and tasks of Head Custodians in their absence, as needed.
- Trains custodial staff in performing cleaning operations and participates in the cleaning and sanitation of assigned school buildings when needed.
- Performs other related duties as directed by the Director or Assistant Director of Maintenance and Operations, or school Principal.
- Mows lawns and performs mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, trimming, and edge to
- lawns
- Hauls or spreads topsoil and straw/pine needles to hold soil in place
- Prunes and trims trees, shrubs, hedges, using shears, pruners or chainsaws
- Maintain and repair tools, equipment and fencing
- Provides proper upkeep of sidewalks and driveways
- Shovels snow from walks, driveways and parking lots as well as spreads salt during
- inclement weather
- Service restrooms, athletic facilities, and other areas as need
- Inspect all athletic facilities for repairs/work needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, or completion of vocational school program and considerable experience in custodial operations and/or building maintenance; supervisory experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License
- Thorough knowledge and use of a variety of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment
- Thorough knowledge of cleaning techniques
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of others
- Ability to instruct and train employees in building operations and care
- Ability to express ideas clearly, orally, and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators and employees
- Proficient in Microsoft Powerpoint, Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of how to operate lawn equipment, including but not limited to vacuum
- cleaners, buffers, scrubbers, lawn mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and hedge
- trimmers
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve-months (260); year salary and work year to be established by the School Board
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND WORK CONTACTS
Work is typically performed in the school setting. Lifting up to 40 pounds and other physical activities are required. Daily contact is made with custodians, Principals or other administrators, and the Director and Assistant Director of Operations and Maintenance.
EVALUATION
Will be evaluated annually on the effectiveness by which one has carried out the above responsibilities.
