What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Enrollment Navigator position at Danville Community College?
Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946, and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.
The Enrollment Navigator will:
- Consult with prospective students to determine ideal academic or training pathway that best matches their needs.
- Assist prospects with completion of the inquiry card.
- Collaborate with college staff, eliminating the need for a prospective student to seek solutions independently, and to provide students with accurate and timely information to make informed and positive decisions.
- Respond to prospective students via phone, or through video conferencing, take incoming calls and place outbound calls to prospective students.
- Provide personalized outreach, guide students through next steps.
- Understand obstacles that might prevent them from starting or continuing their education; help them to overcome those obstacles.
- Guide prospective students through the admissions process, responding to questions, linking them to financial aid and academic advisors, enrolling prospective students into their first courses.
- Monitor student progress as they complete steps required for class registration.
- Guide graduates toward potential employment opportunities in daycare or elementary school settings as para professionals, emphasizing the practical skills gained through the programs.
- Attend academic and student support departmental meetings.
- Attend professional development and training sessions.
- Make recommendations to leadership regarding the elimination of barriers to student enrollment.
- Assist with Student Services events and activities.
- Collaborate with Academic Advisors, faculty, and other campus resources to provide accurate and up-to-date information to students.
The Enrollment Navigator will assist with:
- Completion of the direct enrollment survey.
- Review and resolution of any student stops/holds.
- Communicating next steps related to enrollment/registration.
- Developing and maintaining a schedule of communication.
- Introducing students to the classes of their program.
- Understanding course requirements.
- Understanding both academic and workforce development programs. Specialized enrollment processing for Early Childhood Development and Education programming.
- Processing student record data and updates in Student Information System including but not limited to address changes, SSN information, placement input, advisor assignment, program placement and changes, external education verification, and residency.
- Maintaining accurate data in the Student information System.
- Adhering to record confidentiality and FERPA standards
- Documenting interactions, marking prospects and extracting reports in Navigate.
- Conducting enrollment verifications through the National Student Clearinghouse.
- Processing applications, extracting date and troubleshooting issues with XAP software.
- Reviewing applicant data for validation.
- Providing simple transcript and transfer credit evaluation.
- Registering students for their first semester academic and workforce development courses.
- Maintain logs and case management files to record contact, issues, and outcomes
- Preparing new students to arrive at advising appointments ready for academic planning, success tips, and coaching conversations.
- Offering personalized advising sessions to help students make informed decisions about their academic and career goals, including recommending relevant courses and programs within the Early Childhood Development and Education department.
- Informing and advising Associate degree students about the option to transfer to a four-year university for further education, specifically highlighting the pathway to becoming a PK – 12 teacher.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
