What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outreach Specialist position at Danville Community College?
Commonwealth of Virginia part-time/wage employees are limited to working 1,500 hours per agency per year, which is calculated as the 365-day period from May 1st through April 30th each year. It is the employee and supervisor’s responsibility to manage and maintain the work schedule to ensure the limited 1,500 hours are not exceeded within the May 1 – April 30 365- day period.
The Outreach Specialist works with prospective students including local high school students to increase post-secondary enrollment at Danville Community College by assisting students through the onboarding and enrollment processes.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guide and engage prospective community college students and currently enrolled community college students to support the college’s student recruitment, outreach, and retention efforts.
- Conduct campus tours for individuals and groups.
- Serve as a career guide for prospective students.
- Assist prospective students transitioning to community college.
- Collect, maintain, and report student and program data.
- Provide admissions, placement, and enrollment services.
- Facilitate on-campus and off-campus activities related to outreach, recruitment, and retention, including connection with the community and potential employers to present educational opportunities.
- Work effectively with college stakeholders.
- Enhance business and community engagement.
- Assist by building partnerships with local organizations to support student pathways to careers.
This is a 12-month, part-time, face-to-face position in the Student Services division of the college.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Proven customer service experience
- Knowledge of academic and career planning
- Knowledge of or experience engaging prospective or currently enrolled community college students
- Ability to effectively use and demonstrate the use of a variety of computer software, including MS Office Suite, Google Application, Navigate, Student Information System
- Ability to work effectively in an office environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Case management experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently
- Experience working with a variety of students and community members
