Job Summary
The Chief Development Officer CDO has primary oversight responsibility for the Resource Development and Intuitional Giving Team, which consists of approximately 10 talented staff members. The Development Office is comprised of three focus areas: major gifts, annual giving and institutional grants. The mission of the Development Office is to engage current and future donors through meaningful outreach, activities, and communication to sustain and rapidly grow donations and major gift commitments. The Chief Development Officer provides strong, creative, energetic, and strategic leadership on all development initiatives, programs, and functions, both short and long-term, with responsibility for building a major and planned gifts-focused culture of philanthropy and significantly increasing annual contributed revenue. The Chief Development Officer will serve as the campaign chief officer for the current and future fundraising campaigns. Presently, the $25 Million campaign is 60% to goal with $10 Million in documented gift commitments left to conclude the current effort.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Review weekly timesheets for accuracy, review employee submissions and updates as needed; approve timesheets by required timeline
- Conduct one-on-one meetings (monthly at a minimum frequency, preferably bi-weekly), scheduled conversations, and annual performance reviews with direct reports by required timeline
- Attend mandatory Manager’s Learning Collaborative trainings
- Partner with People Operations to:
- Develop a learning plan for employee development goals to provide tools needed to excel in their position
- Implement and follow a process to address performance issues as they arise
- Prepare a comprehensive onboarding process for each specific position for all new hires
- Address serious issues that may require interventions or investigations
- Develop and monitor departmental and program/project operating budgets, costs and schedules \
- Supervise, lead, coach, and use best management practices to improve staff performance
- Support and model the identified vision, values, and behaviors of the organization
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight to the Resource Development Director and Intuitional Giving Director while managing a personal major donor portfolio ensuring DAP Health’s annual Development Office budget goals are met or surpassed
- Manage a personal portfolio of DAP Health’s highest level/most promising gift prospects and donors, including both individual and institutional sources, moving them through the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship phases. Guide strategy for senior administrative and volunteer leaders’ roles in managing and maximizing those relationships.
- Oversee the hiring, management and evaluation of planned giving consultants. Set appropriate annual goals for a successful and carefully structured planning giving program. Monitor progress on a regular basis to maximize consultant performance.
- Oversee the hiring, management, mentoring, training, and evaluation of experienced and talented fundraising staff. Set appropriate annual goals and monitor progress on a regular basis to maximize staff performance, ensuring the utilization of appropriate metrics on a team and individual basis.
- Ensure sound fiscal management and efficient allocation of resources
- In collaboration with fundraising colleagues, ensure optimization of processes, systems, and infrastructure essential for the successful conduct of Development Office programs, including the appropriate integration of technologies that streamline operational processes and/or engage new audiences of potential donors.
- In strategic partnership with the CEO and Governance Committee, identify potential members of the Board of Directors, create stewardship and engagement opportunities for board members, and educate board members about their role in advancing a culture of philanthropy, cultivate board members’ financial support and leverage their respective networks to expand the donor base
- In collaboration with the Director of Brand Marketing, develop effective, inspirational fundraising and campaign materials in support of fundraising objectives
- Prepare regular reports on fundraising progress and major gift pipeline development to the CEO, CFO, and key members of the Board of Directors
- Analyze development activities and benchmark with peer institutions to ensure that best practices are employed
- Travel domestically to support fundraising priorities including donor cultivation, events, and solicitations

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent work experience in fundraising, development, marketing, communications, events, or related field
- Minimum of 10 years in progressively responsible fundraising leadership positions with experience leading major gift initiatives and capital campaigns
- Demonstrated ability to strategically move individuals and institutions across the spectrum of prospect development. A history of securing six and seven-figure gifts or more, including cultivation through solicitation and stewardship.
- Demonstrated ability to provide management oversight, leadership, and direction with at least five years of significant supervisory experience, including creating and managing a budget.
- Must be steeped in modern philanthropy best practices and able to effectively integrate development-related functions
- Strength in developing the case for support for strategic, complex, and innovative fundraising plans
- Experience working in cross-functional teams
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- This position is on-site at DAP Health Sunrise
- Ability to work weekends and evenings as required
- Ability to travel as needed
- Requires current and valid driver’s license and current personal auto insurance
- This job operates in an office setting and requires frequent times of sitting, standing, repetitive motion and talking

Salary : $197,400 - $220,500
