Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Nursing Manager of Sexual Wellness or designee and guided by the policies and procedures of the DAP Health Medical Clinics, the LVN Prescription Coordinator of Sexual Wellness will play a critical role in optimizing the clinic workflow to create a patient-centered environment while assisting Clinicians, staff, and patients with prescriptions and prior authorizations.
Job Status: Temporary Full-time, Hourly Non-exempt
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists Clinicians with medication refills as well as prior authorizations.
- Discontinues medications with the appropriate pharmacies as needed.
- Serves as a patient liaison by assisting patients with questions and requests.
- Performs the day-to-day operations of the Orange Clinic as directed.
- Provides sexual wellness testing and treatment.
- Performs point-of-care testing in accordance with established policies and practices.
- Performs venipuncture.
- Processes specimens to send out to the lab.
- Conducts brief, but sensitive problem-focused medical interviews, including sexual history and questions regarding sexual orientation.
- Completes appropriate documentation to the Riverside DPH regarding positive STI results (CMR Reports).
- Performs permitted procedures under the direction of the Nursing Manager of Sexual Wellness and/or clinicians, assumes clinical responsibility for the administration of medications, lab result review, and patient education.
- Documents all patient encounters in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Assists with the patient flow during clinic hours.
- Maintains unit operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
- Accesses patient-protected health information as required.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Conserves unit resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Answers telephones and relays messages as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient in the utilization of the electronic medical record system as it applies to the position.
- Phlebotomy skills, preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, preferred.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and written.
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS care and treatment and sensitivity to issues and populations impacted by the disease; HIV specialty, preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in the care and treatment of diseases associated with HIV/AIDS and sensitivity to issues and populations impacted by the disease, preferred.
- Bilingual/bicultural, preferred.
Experience and Education:
- Degree in Nursing – completion of an LVN-accredited program.
- Active Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure in the state of California.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross accredited BLS certification.
- Experience in a clinic, physician's office, medical facility, public health department, or similar facility.
- Experience with the Epic EHR system, preferred.
- Experience working with the LGBTQ community, preferred.
- Experience working with the homeless and low-income communities, preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Ability to lift 24 pounds.
- Operates in a clinical setting at times and requires frequent times of sitting, standing, repetitive motion and talking.
- Involves contact with patients or patient specimens. Exposure to blood, body fluids, and non-intact skin or tissue specimens is required.
Grant Funding Notification
This position is part of or fully funded by a grant that was awarded to DAP Health from an outside funding source. Should the funding for this position not continue after a certain period of time, DAP Health will do everything it can to continue the position being funded, should the organization have the capability and programmatic need to do so. Should DAP Health not be able to continue the Grant funded position, the position will be eliminated due to the lack of funding sources. However, you should be aware that the end date of a grant does not guarantee employment for the duration of the grant. Your employment as a staff employee of DAP Health is considered to be at will and may be terminated by you or DAP Health at any time regardless of the end date of the grant.
