What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician position at Darbster Foundation?
We are looking for a current or aspiring veterinary technician to join the staff of a growing Animal Rescue. Darbster Rescue has three adoption centers in New Hampshire-Darbster Doggy in Chichester and Darbster Kitty & Darbster Rescue at the Mall of NH in Manchester. This position assists our Vetrinarians of Record at all locations to ensure all animals are healthy and ready for their forever home as well as assisting with our upcoming spay/neuter clinic.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the examinations and treatment of all in-house animals prior to, and sometime through, the foster/adoption process
- Assists with the execution of the spay/neuter program through administrative and surgical coverage
- Feed, groom and weigh animals
- Clean cages and bathe animals
- Sterilize equipment and clean examination tables and rooms
- Restrain animals during examinations or vaccinations
- Soothe upset or frightened animals
- Administer medication prescribed by Veterinarians (e.g. by mixing it with food)
- Observe animal behavior or health condition and report to the Vet
- Help in cases of emergencies
- Handle administrative duties such as scheduling appointments or calling patients in the examination room by priority
- Keep accurate records and logs
- Advise adopters on nutrition and healthcare
Requirements and skills
- Experience in an administrative role is a plus
- Current or former pet ownership is an advantage
- Excellent communication skills
- Patient and caring personality
- Ability to follow instructions properly
- Comfortable being around animals (cats, dogs)
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. lift up to 40 lbs)
- Availability to occasionally work in emergencies
- High school diploma; a certificate from a Veterinary /Technician Assistant program is a plus

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
