The Darien Community Association (DCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the community through educational, cultural, and philanthropic programs. The DCA Thrift Shop is a key part of our mission, offering donated goods while generating essential funding for our scholarship and community programs.
Position Overview
Due to the generosity of our donors, the DCA Thrift Shop routinely has a high volume of donations and needs a Stock Associate who can take charge of inventory management, optimize existing processes, and create efficient new systems, all while making sure that donors have a positive experience. This role is ideal for someone who excels at organization, logistics, and workflow improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Work well in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with our team of volunteers.
- Ensure timely and effective communication with the Thrift Shop Manager.
- Be a friendly, welcoming face to donors; express appreciation for donations, provide a donation receipt, and answer any questions donors may have.
- Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for donation processing.
- Streamline the intake and processing of donated items (unpacking, inspecting, sorting, etc.) to improve efficiency.
- Coordinate the pricing of items appropriately and systematically, and place them on shelves/racks so volunteers know they are ready to move to the sales floor.
- Assess current inventory control practices and introduce improvements to maximize space, reduce backlog, and increase sales potential.
- Organize stock areas for easy access, ensuring a clean, orderly, and functional storage system.
- Identify high-value items for special pricing.
- Occasionally assist in donation pick-ups or transfers from our storage unit to the Shop.
Qualifications
- Strong ability to analyze and improve processes for greater efficiencies.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and well-organized.
- Comfortable lifting and moving boxes/items (up to 40 lbs).
- Familiarity with resale/thrift operations is beneficial but not required.
- Experience in retail, warehouse operations, logistics, or inventory management is a plus.
- Commitment to the mission of the DCA and a problem-solving mindset.
- Valid driver's license and comfortable driving cargo vans.
