QUALIFICATIONS :

Current and Valid Elementary Education Illinois Teacher Certificate.
Science Endorsement (highly preferred)
Evidence of proficient / excellent classroom teaching experience
Evidence of experience with problem-based learning
Evidence of planning, organization, and time management skills that will bring structure and accountability to the position.
Deep understanding of NGSS and CCSS.

LOCATION (s) : Mark DeLay School & Lace Elementary School

REPORTS TO : Principal(s) / Superintendent

PURPOSE OF JOB : This position is responsible for designing and implementing a dynamic STEM curriculum for students in Grades K-5. The teacher will collaborate with classroom educators to integrate interdisciplinary STEM activities, fostering hands-on, inquiry-based learning. This role involves providing engaging instruction, promoting problem-solving, critical thinking, and innovation through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Meets and instructs classes in the locations and at the time designated.

Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.

Implement, design, and refine a leading STEM program curriculum for Grades K-5.

Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning.

Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.

Organizes, develops, and coordinates special STEM events / activities for Mark DeLay School and Lace School.

Implements new programs and resources that support the vision of the D61.

Researches outside partnerships / grants / funding opportunities to help support the integrity and growth of the program.

Collaboratively works with the 6-8 STEM teacher to ensure a scope and sequence that best supports K-8 learners.

Maintains and manages an inventory of materials to support the collection and organization of supplies necessary for teaching in a STEM setting.

Assists the administration in implementing all policies and / or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

Strives to maintain and improve professional competence to keep abreast of developments, research, curriculum, best practices, and new technology in the field.

Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal or other appropriate administrator.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

Ten-month year

Full-time employment

Contractual salary as established by the Board of Education
