As a coach for the Xcel program, you are experienced in creating and instructing gymnasts in floor and beam routines. You will guide gymnasts in the proper techniques and disciplines of the sport while promoting a fun and welcoming environment. The Xcel coach also ensures athlete safety and adherence to USA Gymnastics and Darien Y policies and procedures.
The Xcel Coach is a dynamic individual who comes to work with a smile and genuinely enjoys working with athletes, parents, members, and staff. From the gymnastics arena, you will bring your superior knowledge, skills, and leadership to effectively communicate with and guide athletes in proper gymnastics techniques.

Some additional duties for the Xcel Gymnastics Team Coach include, but are not limited to:
- Help plan and coordinate Xcel team practices.
- Instruct assigned classes, pre-team and Xcel team. Attend Xcel team competitions.
- Properly train each athlete, taking into account each athlete’s limitations/and or potential.
- Serve as a positive role model to gymnasts, parents, officials, and staff by following all rules, and demonstrating superior sportsmanship.
- Train and build Pre-team in order to ensure the Travel and Xcel Team continues to have strong and capable athletes representing the program.
- Work independently. Manage, and supervise groups of children.
- Participate and assist all Coaching Staff in conducting training clinics with class staff and other coaches.
- Continue to uphold the tradition and success of the Darien Y Gymnastics Program, by maintaining the highest quality and standards possible.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong gymnastic background competing and/or coaching at a competitive level.
- Minimum of 2 years coaching experience preferred. Punctual and reliable with ability to fulfill all full-time coaching responsibilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of gymnastics fundamentals, concepts, and progressions. Experience in floor and beam apparatus.
- Positive teaching methodology leading to the creation of a motivating, healthy, and positive training environment.
- Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid. CDC Concussion Prevention Training. Safe Sport.
- Ability to work extended hours, evenings and weekends as team schedule demands.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sit, walk, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended, continuous periods of time between 1-4 hours.
- Frequently required to climb, kneel, reach, push, balance, crouch, pull, grasp, stoop, crawl lift and talk.
- Subject to moderate to loud noise levels.
- Willing to travel and work weekends for meets.
- Ability to lift and/or assist children in excess of 50 lbs.
