General Description: Under the direction of the Health/Disabilities Manager along with the education staff, identifies children with disabilities and ensures appropriate intervention and services
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Collaborate with the Mental Health and Disabilities Manager, other service areas, and center staff in identifying the special
needs of children with suspected and diagnosed disabilities or mental health concerns
· Work with classroom teams to develop and incorporate strategies in the classroom setting to meet student needs
· Work with the Mental Health and Disabilities Manager to ensure the appropriateness of mental health services provided and
keep the Mental and Disabilities Manager abreast of activities, plans, challenges, and needs
· Collaborate with Mental Health and Disabilities Manager and other designated staff to identify and provide workshops,
training, and materials to staff and parents to enhance awareness and understanding of working with children with special needs
· Continue ongoing professional development through education, role modeling, mentoring, and training
· Ensure that children with disabilities and the mental health program have relevant and up-to-date files
· Coordinate referrals to community agencies and ensure timely follow-up
· Educate parents of children with disabilities about acquiring services for their children by attending IEP meetings, etc.
· Aggregate and analyze program data that supports the School Readiness Plan
· Actively participate in developing program school readiness goals and objectives and generating educational and social
outcomes for children and families
· Coordinate with staff and stay abreast of classroom activities and concerns for children on their caseloads.
· Develop and present or coordinate workshops for parents during the program year
· Survey and provide recommendations for program improvements in early childhood/family services related to specialized services
· Secure all necessary services/referrals required by each child and family related to education, health, social services, housing,
employment, and others as needed
· Participates in all required meetings, program assessments, and evaluation activities
· Observe and monitor records and data to determine compliance with prescribed standards and regulations
· Maintain ongoing contact with providers, contractors, etc., who work directly with our children. (e.g., staffing, follow-ups,
therapy sessions, IEPs, etc.)
· Assist in implementing and tracking dental, hearing, and vision screenings for children in the Head Start program.
· Assist in tracking required health requirements: physical exams, lead, hemoglobin/hematocrit, immunizations, etc.
· Assists in maintaining and updating complete records and documentation of all contacts and individual health records on
children in conjunction with family services staff; ensures that health and nutrition records are reviewed, evaluated, and
interpreted to collect statistics and other data affecting health and nutrition services
· Other related duties as assigned
