Instructional Associate Level 1 Position Overview: As an Instructional Associate / Supervision - Level 1 at Darnall Charter School, you will play a crucial role in supporting the educational experience of students with Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe Disabilities. This entry-level position involves assisting the Education Specialist, providing individual or group support in classrooms and special education rooms. Responsibilities: Collaborate with the Education Specialist to assist and supervise students across varying grade levels with diverse learning needs. Provide independent, difficult, or specialized assistance in classrooms, resource centers, or other instructional areas, catering to individual or group needs. Offer support to the instructional program in school classrooms on campus and special education rooms. Conduct tutoring sessions for individual pupils or small groups in specific instructional tasks. Administer placement, achievement, and diagnostic tests, recording test scores as necessary. Deliver individual or small group instruction based on established Individual Education Plans (IEP). Design, prepare, and instruct pupils in the use of supplementary instructional materials and audiovisual aids. Assume responsibility for general pupil supervision in the classroom or instructional area in the absence of the classroom teacher. Set up and operate projectors, document cameras, computers, smart board technology, and other audiovisual equipment. Arrange bulletin boards and displays as needed to enhance the learning environment. Support behavior management programs and supervise pupils during lunch, play areas, halls, and grounds. Prepare and assist in instructing pupils in the use of various supplementary instructional materials and audiovisual aids. Participate in research projects with certificated staff and attend in-service training and related activities. Engage in staff development programs as directed by the school administ

TITLE:           Instructional Associate                          REPORTS TO: Assigned Supervisor(s)

 

                                                                                  CLASSIFICATION:  Classified hourly

 

FLSA:             Non-Exempt                                          SALARY Rate:  Competitive

 

 

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS:        

Provide assistance of an independent, difficult, or specialized nature in classrooms, resource centers, or other instructional areas involving contact with pupils on an individual or group basis.

 

Provide assistance to the instructional program in school classrooms and special education rooms.

 

Tutor individual pupils or groups of pupils in specific instructional tasks. 

 

Regularly administer placement, achievement, and diagnostic tests or other special program tests and records test scores as needed.

 

May provide individual or small group instruction to pupils according to established Individual Education Plans (IEP).

 

Design, prepare, and instruct pupils in the use of a variety of supplementary instructional materials and audiovisual aids. 

 

Assume responsibility for the general supervision of pupils in the classroom or other instructional area for periods of time, in the absence of the classroom teacher.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Job Requirements - Qualifications:
Experience Required: one year prior job related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children, previous work with special needs students is desired.

 

High school diploma/GED and a passing score on the Darnall Assistant proficiency exam or an Associate’s Degree (or higher) or 48 or more eligible units of coursework at a recognized college or university.

 

Other: First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificates may be required.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Reading and writing English communication skills

Special education instructional/tutorial procedures and practices desired

Knowledge of and ability to support students with special needs desired

Work collaboratively with teachers to modify lessons to meet the requirements of special education students

 

 

ABILITY TO:

Read, write, and speak English.

Follow verbal and written directions.

Ensure students are receiving exceptional services

Demonstrate enthusiasm for and interest in the instructional program.

Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepares reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations

Teach personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy.

Communicate with and understand the needs of students.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Plan and organize work to meet schedules and time lines.

Read, apply, explain, and follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone; seeing to read and prepare documents, perform assigned duties; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects.

 

Note:   All positions in this job class are part-time and at-will.  Positions are subject to an increase or decrease in hours according to school needs.
