Position Description
TITLE: Instructional Associate REPORTS TO: Assigned Supervisor(s)
CLASSIFICATION: Classified hourly
FLSA: Non-Exempt SALARY Rate: Competitive
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Provide assistance of an independent, difficult, or specialized nature in classrooms, resource centers, or other instructional areas involving contact with pupils on an individual or group basis.
Provide assistance to the instructional program in school classrooms and special education rooms.
Tutor individual pupils or groups of pupils in specific instructional tasks.
Regularly administer placement, achievement, and diagnostic tests or other special program tests and records test scores as needed.
May provide individual or small group instruction to pupils according to established Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Design, prepare, and instruct pupils in the use of a variety of supplementary instructional materials and audiovisual aids.
Assume responsibility for the general supervision of pupils in the classroom or other instructional area for periods of time, in the absence of the classroom teacher.
Set up and operate projectors, document cameras, computers, smart board technology, and other audiovisual equipment. Arrange bulletin boards and other display as needed.
Support behavior management program and supervise pupils in the lunch or play areas, halls, and grounds as needed.
Prepare and assist in instructing of pupils in the use of a variety of supplementary instructional materials and audiovisual aids.
Participate with certificated staff in research projects; attend in-service training and other related activities. Participate in staff development programs as directed.
Gather, compile, and prepare data for statistical and operational reports as needed.
Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Job Requirements - Qualifications:
Experience Required: one year prior job related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children, previous work with special needs students is desired.
High school diploma/GED and a passing score on the Darnall Assistant proficiency exam or an Associate’s Degree (or higher) or 48 or more eligible units of coursework at a recognized college or university.
Other: First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificates may be required.

Special education instructional/tutorial procedures and practices desired
Knowledge of and ability to support students with special needs desired
Work collaboratively with teachers to modify lessons to meet the requirements of special education students

Ensure students are receiving exceptional services
Demonstrate enthusiasm for and interest in the instructional program.
Maintain accurate and complete student records, and prepares reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations

Communicate with and understand the needs of students.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Plan and organize work to meet schedules and time lines.
Read, apply, explain, and follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone; seeing to read and prepare documents, perform assigned duties; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects.
