GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Tooling Lead plays a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of tooling operations within the production environment. This position is responsible for leading a team of Tooling Technicians, overseeing tool maintenance and availability, and supporting production through strategic planning and problem-solving. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of tooling processes, excellent leadership and organizational skills, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead and guide Tooling Techs, providing direction, support, and development opportunities.
• Set goals and objectives for the tooling department, aligning with company priorities.
• Foster a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Organize work, delegate tasks, and manage project progress.
• Oversee the maintenance, and repair of for and trim tools and tooling, and pre punch assemblies.
• Ensure tools are available, in good condition, and at the right time for production processes.
• Maintain a detailed inventory of tools, spare parts, and equipment, ensuring proper storage and maintenance.
• Implement and maintain a production planning schedule.
• Ensure that all tooling is produced efficiently, on time, and in line with quality standards.
• Adhere to health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Communicate with Production and Parts Crib to ensure tools and spare parts are available.
Requirements
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Any additional tasks as requested by Preventive Maintenance Supervisor.
• Follows company safety regulations and general safe practices.
• Maintains clean and orderly workspaces.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of 3 years' experience.
• Good oral and written communication
• Basic Math skills
• Identify and resolve tooling-related issues.
• Continuously seek ways to improve tooling processes and efficiency.
• Strong understanding of tooling processes, materials, and equipment.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control standards.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
• Problem solving and decision-making skills.
PHYSICALS DEMANDS:
• Occasional lifting up to 25 lb. from floor to waist high.
• Occasional bending and stooping.
• Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and portable power tools.
• The ability to use cutting tools, welder and mill a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Lighting is good and temperatures will be hot in summer and cold in the winter. Earplugs, eye protection, steel toed shoes and hair nets are required in the production area. Gloves, face-shield and other various types of protective equipment must be worn when working around machinery.
