Overview

Director of Operations - Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC) Southern Region (Manchester & Nashua, NH) 

 

Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the operational, fiscal, and personnel activities to ensure the provision of high quality, safe patient/family centered care at the Dartmouth Cancer Center Manchester and Nashua sites. This position will have responsibility for multiple geographical areas and treatment modalities including clinic operations, infusion, and oncology nursing, including infusion, research, and triage nursing roles. Advocates for and allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe, and compassionate nursing care. Directs administrative and nursing activities at DCC South.


Responsibilities

Administrative

  1. Leads administrative team in developing workflows and processes to support current and future clinical demands.
  2. Provides management and financial oversight in daily operations. Works with nursing and administrative partners on budgets. Tracks performance against budget on an ongoing basis. Monitors patient revenues and expenses and operational expenses and provides required reports to administration.
  3. Leads projects that include the identification, development, and implementation of programs to enhance the delivery of effective and efficient ambulatory care.
  4. Identifies and solves operational problems and develops opportunities for new or enhanced patient care services.
  5. Collaborates with Senior Director, Oncology Services, Senior Director, Nursing, Quality, and Patient Safety, and Lead APP to ensure consistent administrative, nursing, and APP functions across the Dartmouth Cancer Center.
  6. Partner with the Section Chief to support provider practice.
  7. Participate in recruitment of staff and providers as needed or required.
  8. Provides oversight for multiple geographical areas and care areas such as clinics and procedural units within the Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC).
  9. Manages the hiring process of administrative and nursing managers and supervisors to provide leadership for assigned areas.
  10. Plans adequate staffing and adjustments in alignment with patient volume and clinical needs.
  11. Evaluates and manages the performance of direct reports at managerial and supervisory level, to include coaching and the performance management processes.
  12. Supports and/or participates in clinical research programs in collaboration with the inter-professional team.
  13. Identifies opportunities throughout the system and works collaboratively with clinical and administrative leaders to standardize practice.
  14. Provides leadership oversight to external organizations as outlined in professional service agreements.
  15. Assists systems leaders with integration using clinical and operational expertise.

Nursing

  1. Manages the matrix relationships, including but not limited to, providing input and feedback to Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Clinical Nurse Leaders assigned to the practice area, to ensure clinical competency of staff, quality of patient/family centered care and professional development of clinical staff.
  2. Identifies opportunities for best practices and continued improvement and oversees implementation of such practices.
  3. Responsible for operationalizing best practices in team care coordination.
  4. Proactively assesses safety risks and promotes and models a culture of safety.
  5. Manages supervisory staff and processes to achieve outcomes and organizational goals in regard to clinical quality, patient safety, and patient experience.
  6. Facilitates the work of the Professional Nursing Organization, including facilitating the Practice Area Council. Coaches clinical nurses in professional development and engagement in the Program for Advancing Clinical Excellence (PACE) credentialing program.
  7. Assures that Joint Commission, DNV and other applicable regulatory standards are met in the clinical area. Assures that evidenced based practice and nursing practice standards are achieved in the clinical area.
  8. Assumes accountability for maintaining a safe work environment in alignment with Dartmouth Health’s commitment to employee safety and regulatory requirements including but not limited to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and applicable state and federal law.
  9. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing institution required.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) is required as well as experience in direct patient care.
  • Supervisory and/or management experience required.
  • 5 years of experience in health care administration, preferably in the ambulatory care setting or equivalent in education and experience. Must obtain and maintain clinical competencies within assigned unit.
  • Certification in a nursing specialty is strongly preferred as is continuing professional education and participation in professional organizations.
  • Ability to relate to and deal effectively with physicians, administrators, support staff and the general public with a high degree of tact and discretion.
  • Excellent oral and writing skills.
