Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics is home to the largest laboratory in NH, providing Pathology and Clinical Laboratory services to DHMC and Clinics physician practices, Dartmouth Health system member hospitals, and independent practices and hospitals throughout NH and VT. This position provides pathologists with high-quality products to aid in diagnosis. In a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory, the Histologist III performs routine tasks and a menu of more advanced tests, such as Immunohistochemistry (including prognostic markers), DIF, Enzyme Histochemistry, Special Stains, and Nerve Teasing. The successful applicant in this position values quality patient care, a positive work environment, and teamwork.

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, benefitted, evening-shift position working Monday - Friday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm with voluntary on-call at the weekend. DHMC offers a 10% shift differential for the evening-shift. DHMC and Clinics is offering an $8000 sign-on/retention bonus for this position. *External applicants only and certain conditions apply.

Responsibilities
  1. Performs processing, embedding & microtomy of routine specimens efficiently with highest quality
  2. Performs grossing of specific specimen types if qualified by CLIA regulation.
  3. Performs staining; routine & special stains efficiently with highest quality
  4. Performs immunohistochemistry efficiently with highest quality
  5. Operates and maintains processing and staining equipment
  6. Ensures accurate results by following established quality control practices.
  7. Identifies when a QC problem exists and notifies appropriate technical staff.
  8. Trains in routine areas; processing, embedding, microtomy & staining.
  9. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • Three or more years of work experience in a clinical histology laboratory.
  • HT Qualifications
    • Route 1:Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last five years prior to the date of application for examination. The education received from an accredited HT program is acceptable for a period of five (5) years from the date of completion of that program. After five years, the applicant’s eligibility will be based on clinical laboratory experience as stated in the current examination eligibility requirements.
    • Route 2: At least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), or an associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND one year of full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical,* veterinary, industry or research) laboratory in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory* within the last five years. * CMS CLIA certificate of registration, compliance, accreditation; OR JCI accreditation; OR Accreditation under ISO 15189.   • HTL Qualifications
    • Route 1: Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program within the last five years. The education received from a NAACLS accredited HT/HTL program is acceptable for a period of five (5) years from the date of completion of that program. After five years, the applicant’s eligibility will be based on laboratory experience as stated in the current examination eligibility requirements.
    • Route 2: Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND one year of full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical,* veterinary, industry or research) laboratory in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory* within the last five years. *CMS CLIA certificate of registration, compliance, accreditation; OR JCI accreditation; OR Accreditation under ISO 15189.
