The Category Manager needs to be on site at various times at different DH locations depending on the projects and services needed, throughout the year.

The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing contract category management strategies to reduce costs, enhance supplier performance and optimize procurement processes, playing a critical part in advancing supply chain efficiency, and supporting high-quality patient care. This role involves close collaboration with internal stakeholders and suppliers and serves as a liaison between Supply Chain and General Counsel. Reviews and negotiates contracts for supplies, equipment and purchased services within the parameters established by General Counsel. Educates Supply Chain staff in understanding contract terms and conditions, statutory, and regulatory issues pertaining to contracts.
Responsibilities
Analysis and Reporting
Develop and implement category management strategies for assigned product and service categories.
Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to understand and meet their procurement needs and to align category strategies with patient care objectives and cost-saving initiatives
Utilize data analytics and market intelligence to drive informed sourcing decisions and category strategies.
Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor category performance
Obtains and analyzes comparative, competitive, and market data to ensure contract pricing is within fair market value guidelines and is appropriate and advantageous to DH
Reviews complex solicitations and prepares specialized and/or non-routine responses for proposals, bids, and contract modifications.
Analyzes significant, and/or unique, contract requirements, special provisions, terms and conditions to ensure compliance with appropriate laws, regulations, and corporate policies and business unit procedure and communicates results to necessary parties
Contract Negotiation and Support
Leads sourcing initiatives, including market analysis, supplier selection, and contract negotiations.
Develops negotiation strategy and participates with negotiation team on complex contractual issues
Analyzes new laws, regulations, and contract trends for potential impact on business unit goals and objectives
Provides authoritative guidance to internal business teams and contract subordinates on corporate goals and objectives relating to contract activity
Acts as the focal point for all communication with legal, finance, and business team disciplines for resolution of contract issues and disputes
Works proactively with leadership to develop mechanisms by which improvements in contract review process can be implemented and measured.
Contract Administration (pre and post)
Manages supplier relationships to ensure performance, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Monitors contract performance and adherence to established terms and metrics.
Assists in identification, development, and implementation of new contract policy and processes
Supports contract administration services through effective communications, education, post-award analysis, and improvement
Develops and maintains positive, professional relationships with staff and management at all levels, including maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations and core values (respect, integrity, stewardship, excellence, collaboration, and kindness), continuously learning, and by performing other duties as needed or assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management or a related field.
Five years of experience in contracting, category management, procurement or supply chain.
Master’s degree in business administration (MBA), law degree (JD), or Healthcare Administration (MHA) plus 2 years of experience preferred.
Strong negotiations skills required.
Contract Management certification preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of the business case and an appreciation of financial/analytical issues and profit and loss implications.
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with various levels of management within DH
Strong organizational skills.
Team oriented with consulting and advisory skills and service orientation.
Proficiency in data analysis and financial acumen.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Good presentation, leadership, and management skills.
Ability to effect and manage change agents.
