Overview
Operates the boilers and related energy equipment. Provides routine and specially scheduled maintenance checks.
Responsibilities
Inspects boilers and Building 10 for proper operation. Documents in the log. Evaluates and executes emergency repairs and/or adjustments, or recommends long and short term repairs. Determines and implements alternatives for providing continued service.
Reviews building and boiler systems log reports and trends for proper operations. Evaluates identified problems or conditions which are outside of established set points, and makes necessary adjustments. Monitors adjustments to assure effective corrective action. Utilizes automation systems full capabilities to evaluate and improve operations.
Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment per established procedures for boiler, feeds water pumps, fuels pumps and related equipment. Evaluates effectiveness of procedures and makes recommendations for improvements. Completes all necessary P.M. work order documentation.
Performs assigned work order repairs on Power Plant equipment with consideration for impact on ongoing operations. Evaluates the nature of the reported problem, determines the most effective method of analysis and corrective measures, assuring problem correction and necessary follow-up. Completes all necessary work order documentation.
Keeps the supervisor informed of inventory levels.
Maintains and repairs all steam traps in Building 10. Checks and repairs any found leaking. Records in the preventive maintenance book.
Takes daily water tests on boiler water, condensate water and steam lines. Compares results with established parameters, determines and makes appropriate adjustments to minimize corrosion. Records test results and adjustments and reports abnormal conditions. Communicates with supervisor to review test results, problems, and potential program changes.
Evaluates and recommends needs for spare parts, supplies, and fuel as necessary to accomplish work orders and projects.
Studies the Energy Plant systems and evaluates equipment and systems, and makes recommendations for improved cost effective operations.
Adheres to requirements of all codes, standards, Hospital, and Department policies and procedures with particular attention given to safety related items. Reports observed unsafe situations and practices.
Ensures proper operation of autoclave. Covers waste management operations during scheduled lunch breaks, holidays, vacations, and weekends.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
High school graduate with 2 years of experience as an Energy Plant Operator (certification desirable) or the equivalent boiler and heating/cooling experience.
