Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), located in the Upper Connecticut River Valley of Northern New England, invites applications for the position of Section Chief of Infectious Diseases and International Health. This is a unique opportunity to lead a vibrant, world-class team of clinicians and researchers at the forefront of infectious disease care, education, and groundbreaking research. We seek a dynamic, visionary physician who will advance our mission of providing exceptional patient care, leading transformative research, and training the next generation of experts in infectious diseases.
As the new Section Chief, you will be a key leader in a distinguished academic health system, overseeing a highly respected and collaborative section known for its excellence in areas such as HIV/AIDS care, clinical research, international health, and hospital-associated infections. Dartmouth Health has played a pivotal role in shaping the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with faculty contributing to vaccine and antiviral drug trials, long COVID research, and public health impact. As we continue this legacy of excellence, the new Section Chief will guide a team that is committed to pioneering new treatments, advancing public health policy, and fostering innovation in clinical and translational research.
Position Highlights:
  • Lead and mentor a talented group of physicians, advanced practice providers, and researchers, fostering a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
  • Shape and expand the section’s clinical, educational, and research missions in alignment with Dartmouth Health’s commitment to improving patient outcomes and advancing scientific discovery.
  • Partner with the department’s leadership to ensure a balanced focus on research, education, and patient care while creating a positive and dynamic work environment for faculty and staff.
  • Drive initiatives to further enhance the Section’s fellowship program, which offers comprehensive, ACGME-accredited training in infectious diseases.
  • Provide expertise on complex patient care in a regional academic health system that serves a diverse and dynamic population.
  • Create and implement a vision for a system-wide program encompassing 7 hospitals and approximately 40 outpatient practices.
The ideal candidate will be a board-certified Infectious Disease specialist with significant leadership experience in academic medicine, a demonstrated ability to lead research initiatives, and a passion for clinical education and mentorship. This position offers a blend of clinical, administrative, and academic responsibilities, with the flexibility to tailor the role to the successful candidate’s strengths and aspirations.

Qualified Candidates:
  • Must be eligible for the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.
  • Board-certified in Infectious Diseases by the ABIM or AOBIM.
  • Eligible for licensure in New Hampshire and Vermont.
  • Proven experience in academic medicine, including leadership in clinical care, research, and education.
