I. JOB SUMMARY The Registered Nurse assesses patients psychological and spiritual needs; contributes to the individualized patient care and coordinates plan of care with physician and Health Care Team; implements the plan of patient care and evaluates the outcome of patient care, offering quality patient care for patients of all age groups. II. RELATIONSHIPS Service Director of Immediate Unit. Nursing Supervisor. Charge Nurse. III. QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Successful completion of Pharmacological Examination. Minimum of one-year recent experience in clinical area for position or Medical/Surgical experience preferred. Proof of CPR participation. Demonstrates evidence of knowledge and ability to use recognized channels of communication and understands the English language. Knowledgeable of new trends and developments in the field of nursing. Ability to respond to on-the-job-training. IV. TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to ascend and descend stairs in order to retrieve patient care supplies and respond to emergencies as needed. Must be able to work rapidly, under pressure, without a break for up to 4 hours to maintain schedule. Able to hear communication whether verbal or via the telephone with or without assistive device and can accurately repeat messages. Able to verbally communicate information so receiver can accurately repeat. Good vision with or without corrective lenses. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Must have manual dexterity to operate department equipment and to write information legibly into record books, charts, etc. Able to frequently lift, turn or push in wheelchair or stretcher/bed an adult patient weighing up to 250 pounds. Rarely required to lift, turn, or push in wheel chair or stretcher/bed an adult patient weighing up to 400 pounds. The necessity to come in contact with body fluids, secretions, and tissue, with proper items for protection. Must be able to walk, stoop, kneel, or stand for undetermined lengths of time, dependent on number of patient procedures and length of time for procedure. V. WORKING CONDITIONS Majority of time will be spent inside, on nursing unit or specific department. Ability to work with multiple activities occurring simultaneously. Responds to rush and urgent work requests.
