JOB SUMMARY:
Ensure materials are shipped and received in the timeliest and cost effective manner. Accurate preparation, either manually or electronically, of import and export documents required by U.S. Customs & Border Protection. Assist in the preparation of Custom duties draw backs as applicable, replies to Customs “Request for information” and logistics coordination between carriers, freight forwarders, airlines and U.S. Customs & Border Protection. Assists with preparation and packaging of parts and or material.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
Prepares Export documents, commercial invoices, and Shippers Export Declaration either manually or electronically.
Prepares Import documents for U.S. Customs either manually or electronically.
Prepares Haz-Mat documents and maintains logs of Hazardous Materials for DOT and FAA.
Processes check request for U. S. Customs.
Maintains file of each Import/Export release and associated payments in a neat and orderly condition.
Performs follow up on Import/Export issues.
Contacts carriers for POD (Proof Of Delivery), tracing and expediting.
Serve as Internal liaison providing information to internal customers regarding departmental Import/Export requirements.
Routes and coordinates scheduled shipments and deliveries.
Prepares various reports pertaining to timeliness and discrepancies.
Works with all carriers and assists in the management of freight cost.
Assists with negotiating freight rates to lowest cost and maintain delivery standards.
Works on process improvements that add value to our operations.
Interprets established policies and procedures.
Drafts financial, statistical, narrative, and/or other reports as requested.
Independently composes reports and correspondence containing decisions that establish precedents and which may commit a unit or superior to a course of action.
Maintains updates on all Company and U.S. Government Customs manuals and procedures.
Performs all other duties as assigned by Warehouse Management.
Able to audit customs entries performed by established Customs Brokers.
NON-PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
Signs on behalf of superior, as delegated, his or her name to correspondence, vouchers, and other forms of consequence.
Routes shipments to provide customer satisfaction.
Approve freight bills for payment.
Communicates with U.S. Customs & Border Protection, Carriers or forwarders.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduate or equivalent.
2 years of experience in Domestic Air and Surface transportation including 1 year of experience in International Air, Surface, or Ocean transportation.
Must have good oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to work with limited supervision.
Must be computer literate and possess a working knowledge of current business software applications including interface software between U.S. CBP and the shipping Community.
Must be able to access file cabinets (standing, kneeling, pulling and pushing drawers) with lifting normally associated in proper file maintenance with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must have demonstrated knowledge of classifying parts with HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) as well as Schedule “B”.
Must possess proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Word.
ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior experience with a custom’s broker, freight forwarder, or worked at a company with import/export requirements.
Familiar with aviation components.
PowerPoint experience.
Experience with International documentation and transportation.
Experience with Hazardous Materials as related to Transportation and classification.
Prior experience with an electronic entry system used for Customs purposes.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily office complex environment within the Warehouse with the occasional need to work in the Warehouse environment and occasional travel between Hangars.
