This role is for a User Assistance Technical Writer to support the SOLIDWORKS User Assistance team. The team’s mission is “to design, develop, and continuously improve user assistance content that is thorough, accurate, engaging, easy-to-find, and relevant so that users can onboard quickly and do their work effectively.” The team documents all SOLIDWORKS-branded CAD and related apps, including SOLIDWORKS, SOLIDWORKS Connected, xDesign, and many others.

INTERN: Compensation for this role will be commensurate with experience. The total expected compensation range will be between $22 and $40 per hour.

Under the supervision of the User Assistance Development Director, senior managers, and other members of the team, you will:
- Learn the core principles and techniques of modern technical writing within a fast-paced, global, best-in-class writing team
- Learn how to use SOLIDWORKS apps and the User Assistance team's content creation and management tools
- Develop new content and incorporate new content written by others into existing documents
- Review and modify both existing user assistance content and new content developed by the team to improve its quality and impact
- Contribute to the team’s current goal of expanding the visual content (images, animations, videos) in our documentation
- Bring a fresh perspective to our team and offer ideas for changing what we create and how we work
- Highly motivated to learn the profession of technical writing
- Fascinated by the challenge of analyzing complex material and presenting it clearly and simply
- Interested in communicating visually as well as in writing
- Able to move easily and quickly between the "student" role (learning from others and working under close supervision) and the "autonomous team member" role (handling increasingly challenging tasks with minimal supervision)
- Highly organized with good time management, scheduling, and prioritizing skills
- Above all, curious
- Experience with any of the following (or similar) is a plus:
- CAD software
- Programming/scripting (especially web development or XML),
- Graphics or video creation/analysis
- Hands-on engineering (repair/maintenance, model-making, robotics, electronics, etc.)
