Datalytica has an immediate opening in Arlington, VA for an onsite Bioprocess Engineer to support the Biological Technologies Office (BTO) at DARPA. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Bioprocessing Engineering or related degree and an active DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a TS / SCI.

This is an exciting opportunity involving innovative bioprocess scaling and engineering that transform how biological production systems are designed, optimized and scaled.
The role of this key position is to collaborate with the Program Managers and cross-functional teams as you apply first principle thinking, bridge theoretical understanding with practical implementation, balance cellular requirements with engineering constraints all while identifying and resolving scale-dependent process challenges.

Key Responsibilities
Provide expert technical support to Program Managers (PMs) in developing and refining revolutionary bioprocess engineering concepts.Develop and contribute to Program Initiation Pitches (PIPs) through collaboration with PMs and System Engineer Technical Assistant (SETA) teams, ensuring alignment with leadership feedback.Scale biological processes from bench (0.5-5L) through pilot scale (50-500L), including process characterization, media / feed strategy optimization, and validation of scale-down models.Stay current with emerging bioprocess technologies and strategies, including process intensification, real-time process analytical technologies (PAT), and continuous processing.Conduct analytical assessments of fundamental research to support PM decision-making and identify potential technical opportunities and risks.Interface with key opinion leaders across academia, industry, and government to gather insights for program development.Perform initial technoeconomic analyses of novel processes to ensure feasibility and effectiveness.Effectively communicate complex engineering concepts to diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.Minimum Qualifications
Advanced degree (preferably a PhD) in Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on biological systems.Active Secret Security Clearance or higher with the ability to obtain a TS / SCI.2 years experience scaling biological processes bench through pilot scale.Hands on Knowledge with the following :Process Modeling and Simulation Software - SuperPro Designer, Aspen
Flux Balance Analysis Metabolic modelingStatistical Design of Experiments and Process Control using JMP or R with MinitabProcess Analytical Technology implementationCFD for bioreactor characterizationExperience with multiple cell lines (bacterial, yeast, mammalian) and various bioreactor types (STR, airlift, perfusion / HF).Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with advanced process development strategies such as high-throughput screening and scale-down models.Understanding of common scale-up challenges, including oxygen transfer limitations, shear effects, and cell line stability.Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills with the ability to work across scientific and engineering domains.Datalytica Benefits
