Facilities:

Dataw Island is a private, secluded sea island located 6 miles outside of historic Beaufort, SC. Dataw Island is 870 acres with 985 homes and 85 unimproved lots. As one of South Carolina’s premier golf communities, Dataw Island is home to two 18-hole golf courses: Tom Fazio’s Cotton Dike course and Arthur Hills’ Morgan River course. With an impressive 66,000 golf rounds played annually, the courses are much enjoyed by the membership and very busy. Golfers enjoy beautiful natural surroundings as they wind their way through the island and amongst tidal marshland, live oaks dating back hundreds of years and Civil War era ruins – starting and ending at our Southern-style Clubhouse. Dataw has a 40,000 square foot Clubhouse, a 16,000 square foot Community Center with indoor pool and fitness facilities, 8 Har Tru tennis courts, 4 pickle ball courts and a lawn and racquet center, an outdoor swimming pool, 2 bocce courts and 2 regulation croquet lawns. These facilities support the membership of 973 residents along with 260 off-island memberships.

The club operates 12 months per year. In addition, the community has a full-service marina with a commercial restaurant, a 33-acre passive recreation island, several community docks, historic tabby ruins, community library and a gazebo for outdoor functions.

The residential development of Dataw Island began in 1983 and was conceived with sensitivity to the environment and to the array of wildlife inhabiting the island. Both golf courses have been designated as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary”. The nature preserves and fresh-water retention ponds provide a natural habitat for wildlife including many types of birds, deer, alligators and fish.

Position Overview:

Dataw Island Club offers a unique blend of natural beauty and exceptional amenities. Our club prides itself on offering a premier golfing experience with state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant community atmosphere. We are seeking a hands-on, visible, and engaged leader to oversee our golf operations and enhance our tradition of excellence.

The Director of Golf will play a pivotal role in overseeing the entire golf operation at Dataw Island Club, ensuring outstanding golf experience for all members and guests. This position involves managing the club-owned golf shop, range, services areas, and cart operations, as well as supervising the golf department staff. With a busy tournament schedule, much group play, and numerous golfing events, the Director of Golf will actively collaborate with the golf staff, regularly coordinating efforts to guarantee a smooth and enjoyable game experience. The ideal candidate will be able to operate within the limits of a fiscally conservative budget, all while showcasing a strong dedication to customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage Golf Operations: Ensure high standards of service and satisfaction across all golf-related operations, including the golf shop and department services.
• Staff Leadership: Recruit, train, and develop golf personnel, fostering a team culture focused on excellence and continuous improvement.
• Business Planning: Develop and implement strategic business plans to enhance revenues, control costs, and improve operational efficiency.
• Customer Engagement: Actively engage with members, welcoming prospective customers and creating a friendly, inclusive environment.
• Golf Programs: Design and execute innovative golf programs, tournaments, and activities that cater to a wide range of skill levels and interests.
• Marketing Initiatives: Lead marketing efforts to promote golf memberships, events, and special packages, enhancing the club's visibility and appeal.
• Financial Oversight: Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance, ensuring alignment with the club's goals and objectives.
• Community Involvement: Maintain a positive professional image within the community and participate in relevant conferences and trade shows.

Qualifications:

• PGA Membership: Maintain a PGA of America membership in good standing.
• Golf Expertise: Strong knowledge of golf operations, rules, and tournament management.
• Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience in supervising and developing staff.
• Organizational Skills: Excellent planning, prioritization, and multitasking abilities.
• Customer Focus: Commitment to delivering exceptional service and fostering member satisfaction.

Salary

A market value compensation package will include a base salary commensurable with experience and qualifications plus a performance bonus incentive of up to 12% of base compensation. The Club has a comprehensive benefits package including health and dental insurance, vacation, personal time off and an excellent 401(k) plan.
