This position is Sunday - Thursday from 9:30 am – 5:30 pm with some flexibility required depending on the scheduling of events. Work within a team of Recreation Therapy Assistants, Aides and the Director of Recreation.
We believe activities give structure to the day for residents, which give them a sense of safety, helps with passing the time, and give a purpose to their life.
Successful candidate will be outgoing, professional and courteous, passionate about providing fun and enriching activities to residents, and someone who works well within a team setting. We will consider Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) as well!
The basic responsibilities will include:
- Assists the departmental staff in the planning of appropriate recreational activities and programs. May work independently to facilitate ongoing routine programs and assignments.
- Performs a variety of functions related to the setting up of recreational programs and subsequent clean up as may be appropriate to the program.
- Directly performs recreational programming, leading residents or assisting the Director of Recreation with individual, and small and large sized groups. Provides individual social and sensory visits to residents as directed or scheduled.
- Carries out and performs a variety of clerical and record keeping functions including constructing and maintaining departmental calendar of events, departmental attendance records, departmental monthly activity calendar and other miscellaneous assignments as requested or inherent as part of the recreation program.
- Provides support services to residents such as transporting them to and from recreation programs, sorting and distributing mail; performs other related support assignments.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Two years of experience working with the elderly population preferred.
