Job Description
Daughters of Sarah is a 210-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility conveniently located on Washington Ave. Extension (within close proximity to Crossgates Mall). We have a new and exciting career opportunity within our Building Services department! We are seeking a Full-Time Manager of Environmental Services.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION: Must have a minimum of ahigh school degree or equivalent,
GED; a two (2) year degree in a related field is preferred; at least three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory position at a large facility.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: The Manager of Environmental Services is responsible for planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of the Environmental Services department. This should be done in accordance with policies and procedures, current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing the Nursing Center to assure that it is maintained in a safe and comfortable manner. Environmental Services consists of two major functional areas: Housekeeping and Laundry.
DUTIES:
1. Manages the department’s daily activities to include scheduling of assignments as well as special assignments. Scheduling requires all areas of the Nursing Center are covered. Ensures all assignments have been completed successfully.
2. Manages the cleaning of occupied and unoccupied rooms in accordance to policies and procedures.
· Responsible for addressing and resolving any maintenance issues.
· Responsible for residents’ rooms being ready for admission.
3. Responsible for performing routine inspections to ensure that employees are following procedures, including using equipment available to them, using the right chemicals for each of their tasks and using safety measures to perform their jobs.
4. Manages the Department’s Orientation program, trainings and in-services to ensure new employees are able to perform their duties, comfortable with their roles in the department, capable of following the guidelines to do their jobs successfully, and understand how to safely and successfully use the equipment and chemicals required in their daily tasks.
5. Manages a variety of administrative duties.

· Maintains accurate records for all department activities
· Track and submit department time and attendance for payroll processing
6. Performs management activities including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling, and performance evaluations of staff in the Environmental Services department.
· Takes corrective action as necessary in a timely manner and consults with Human Resources as appropriate.
· Ensure employee discipline is done fairly, and employees understand the outcome.
7. Meets the Nursing Center’s conduct, appearance, attendance and other standards.
· Is viewed by residents, families, management and co-workers as a professional asset to the organization
· Maintains professional and courteous interactions with all co-workers and staff
· Punch detail reports indicate that the time clock is consistently used; attendance standards are met and tardiness is infrequent, if at all.
· Personal breaks and cell phone usage are within the Nursing Center’s guidelines.
· I.D. badge is consistently worn in plain view.
· Hair, nails, appearance and uniform/work clothes meet the Nursing Centers and/or department standards.
8. Performs other duties as may be requested or required on a non-regular basis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend and lift objects of up to 50 lbs. unassisted, over 50 lbs. with assistance.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to read, write, speak and understand English; good communication skills; to work as a member of a team; to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity to people, especially older adults; must have patience, tact and cheerful disposition.
