The Print and Mailing Services Technician is responsible for operating the print shop equipment to perform the mass duplication of library promotional and publicity materials. The position is responsible for managing print shop activity by ordering, maintaining, and inventorying supplies. This position manages postal software, provides clean and accurate mailing files for all Dauphin County Library System (The Library), bulk mailings and oversees mailing output for these efforts.

Environmental Conditions
Primarily works indoors. Uses printing inks, chemical cleaners, and other substances which can cause injury to the operator or to nearby workers if safety guidelines are not followed.
Essential Functions
- Sets up and operates all print shop equipment, including but not limited to, digital press, booklet maker, folding machine and shrink wrapper. Works with goal of no more than 5% printing errors per month.
- Responsible for managing all press activities. Maintains supplies inventory by ordering paper and all other necessary supplies for the printing services department. Maintains and monitors printing costs by monitoring supply costs.
- Primarily responsible for managing postal software, providing clean, accurate mailing files for all The Library’s bulk mailings and overseeing mailing output for these efforts. Assist in the development of a strategy for bulk electronic mailing communications/fundraising plan. In charge of implementing and maintaining the mailing communications plan.
- Responsible for all production aspects of direct mail, including brochure and envelope printing, folding, tabbing and inserting.
- Prioritizes and schedules print jobs. Electronically updates department spreadsheets to reflect project status in a timely manner. Resolves press schedule conflicts with Supervisor’s assistance.
- Offers suggestions on the most effective methods of duplicating materials.
- Uses graphic software to output files for use on the digital press.
- Performs minor maintenance on print shop equipment and determines when major outside maintenance is required.
- Performs printing related tasks such as booklet making, folding, cutting, shrink wrapping, laminating and perforating of printed items.
- Reviews labels, packages and distributes finished print jobs.
- Prepares monthly spreadsheet of narrative and statistical reports.
- Attends staff meetings and continuing education workshops. Participates in system committees

Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training: Technical training or certification in print technology is a plus. Associates degree in design, printing or related field.
Experience: One-year experience in printing or related field, one year of experience with postal software and mailing equipment. Two years active experience using Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent and searching the Internet in a Windows environment.
Required: Excellent customer service and communication skills, ability to lift or move up to 75 lbs. assisted and up to 40 lbs. unassisted, requires occasional independent transportation to libraries, programs, and outreach locations
