JOB DESCRIPTION
Dauphin County Parks & Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Part Time History Educator. The objective of the employee in this role is to help develop history education and event programming for the County Parks system and to assist with coordinating and staffing events and programs. The employee in this role is also responsible for but not limited to performing the following essential functions:
Essential Functions of Job:
- Helps prepare and present history education and recreation programs to private and public schools, home schools, colleges, community-based organizations, teachers, and the general public.
- Assists in the administration and management of Fort Hunter Mansion and large-scale events, including conducting tours and acting as liaison with exhibitors, vendors, and volunteers.
- Acts as a liaison with educational institutions including schools, districts, colleges, universities, service organizations, private/parochial schools, educators, and other educational resources and advocates.
- Assists in recruiting and training volunteers and fosters active support by the general public for the facilities and history education.
- Assists in developing use of technology, interpretive displays including exhibits, illustrated lectures, signs, virtual content, recordings, and other related presentation and engagement materials at the Mansion and throughout the park system.
- Collaborates with and supervises volunteers and community groups; organizes and deploys same in projects of research, presentation, preservation, and upkeep of the parks.
- Helps develop calendar of events for history education and recreation activities.
- Undertakes historical research in the planning of programs.
- Helps train docents and volunteers to lead and manage groups of all ages in history education and event programming.
- Assists Park Manager and Program Manager with researching and applying for grants or sponsorships for program funding.
- Prepares flyers, brochures, digital and other promotional materials as needed.
- Attends staff and event planning meetings.
- Works a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Assists with leading and developing current park events and programs as well as introducing new events and programs.
- Performs all job-related duties as assigned.
Other Duties of Job:
- Attends meetings or training sessions as required.
- Presents, sets up and cleans program spaces as needed.
- Operates park equipment and vehicles as needed to perform job duties.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
- Assists with museum tasks as required, including but not limited to exhibit development, archiving, and collections maintenance.
- Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
