What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025 Discovery Hall Summer Camp Counselor position at Dauphin Island Sea Lab?
Discovery Hall Programs are seeking a few awesome individuals to work as counselors for our summer overnight camps. These camps host upper elementary, middle or high school students. Counselors may serve for only a single camp session, or for multiple camp sessions during the summer. If you are interested, please read more about our different camps here.
During camp, counselors are responsible for the health and safety of the campers. They live in the dorms and eat meals in May’s Café with the campers and participate in all camp activities. Room and board are provided as is a small stipend reflective of the camp length. Counselors must have completed at least one year of college and be CPR and 1 st aid certified. Counselors must also pass a background check conducted by DISL. Counselors agree to arrive at DISL one full day prior to the beginning of camp and commit to our required training session.
Counselors should enjoy working with children, be comfortable in and around the water, and enjoy being outdoors, including in the heat and humidity of our summers. Counselors do not teach programs and are not required to know any marine science, but counseloring is a great opportunity to learn more about Gulf coast marine plants, animals and ecosystems.
