Executive Development Director – Job Description
(Part-time position; ~24 hours/week)
Major Purpose: Lead the Davenport Schools Foundation (DSF) in the achievement of their Mission and Vision. The ideal candidate will be energetic, enthusiastic, and able to build strong relationships quickly across a diverse constituency while increasing both financial and participative support of the foundation throughout the community.
Fundraising & Community Outreach: develop and manage multiple streams of resources to advance the Mission and Vision of the DSF. Increase awareness and support of the DSF throughout the greater Davenport community.
Fundraising:
- Continually expand donor base by building relationships with existing and potential new donors
- Maintain a database to record and acknowledge gifts, and generate reports
o Fundraise through various means such as special events (galas, receptions, etc.); sales/fundraising programs (Major Saver, Birdies for Charity, Green State Give and Grow, etc.) and major gift programs
- Participate in the Association of Fundraising Professionals
Community Outreach:
- Enhance DSF’s profile and increase community support with ongoing engagement, which may include:
o Writing and sending a DSF Newsletter across the Davenport Community School District (DCSD)
o Writing and distributing DSF news releases and publications to area media, schools, and others
o Publicizing awards and associated special events
o Updating the DSF web site, Facebook page and other social media, as needed.
Scholarships & Development: manage and expand endowments in support of the DSF Scholarship Program; coordinate the annual awarding of college scholarships to deserving students.
Scholarship:
- Meet with scholarship donors to establish meaningful and reliable scholarship opportunities for the DCSD community.
- Collaborate with school counselors and the DSF Scholarship Committee on the annual scholarship program.
Development:
- Create and follow a Development Calendar with fundraising and outreach activities to enhance DSF support
- Collaborate with the DCSD liaison on Great Minds Programs in support of mini-grants & grade level enhancements
- Serve as a liaison between DSF and DCSD personnel at all levels - teachers, administrators, curriculum development team, accounting, HR and IT
Board & Leadership Support: work closely with the DSF Board and Executive Committee in support of the DSF Mission and Vision
- Schedule six regular board meetings per year and special meetings as needed. Organize minutes and reports.
- Coordinate events, plan meetings and present awards
- Manage the DSF office, including daily correspondence and phone calls pertaining to fundraising, alumni relations, programming and board activities
Qualifications:
- Fundraising experience is required; non-profit experience is preferred.
- Excellent people skills; able to engage and build strong relationships with all stakeholders and coworkers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective presentation and public speaking skills
- Strong time management skills; detail oriented and able to multi-task effectively, plan, organize and execute
- Able to work effectively as an individual and a team member
- Ability to use Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.), as well as communications software, and social media.
- High School Diploma required; college degree preferred
