Primary Purpose:

Assist the school principal in overall administration of instructional program and campus level operations. Provides leadership and direction for improving teaching and learning. Oversee the implementation of district instructional initiatives and educational programs. 

 

Education / Certification:

  1. Master’s degree.
  2. Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate.
  3. Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation System (TTESS) appraiser

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  1. Thorough understanding of school operations.
  2. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to coordinate campus support operations.
  4. Thorough understanding of current approaches to effective teaching and learning.

Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. Three years of experience as a classroom teacher. 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management

  1. 1Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
  2. Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  3. Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
  4. Service as an extension to the Curriculum and Instruction department in its efforts to improve teaching and learning.
  5. Serve as the Site Coordinator for the Texas Virtual School Network.
  6. Use appropriate data to set priorities and establish high, concrete goals in the context of improving student achievement.
  7. Promote research-based instructional strategies for improving student achievement.
  8. Provide direction and oversight in the evaluation, design, and implementation of rigorous curriculum, quality instruction, and multiple assessment practices.
  9. Inspire and lead staff to continually design more effective teaching and learning experiences for all students.
  10. Engage staff in meaningful professional development that supports quality instruction.

School/Organizational Climate

  3. Communicate effectively with students and staff.

School/Organizational Improvement 

  1. Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  2. Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain and records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

Personnel Management

  1. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser for designated teacher appraisal system.
  2. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
  3. Identifies and acts on opportunities for improving teaching and learning.
  4. Ensures the staff has necessary professional development opportunities that directly enhance their performance and improve student learning.
  5. Provides ongoing coaching for improvement.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

  1. Supervise operations in principal’s absence.
  2. Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
  3. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
  4. Assist the principal in the development and maintenance of the master schedule.
  5. Oversee the campus testing program to include, but not limited to, locally developed assessments, state assessments, AP, PSAT, SAT, ACT, Accuplacer, etc.

Student Management

  1. Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non instructional periods.
  2. Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
  3. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  4. Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

Professional Growth and Development 

  1. Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.

School/Community Relations

  1. Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  3. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  4. Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance ad learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel, and others as assigned.
