Strategic Responsibility:
The Chief of Ministry Care is responsible for fostering the spiritual well-being of senior leaders and, in partnership with ministry leaders, cultivating a culture of spiritual care for all David C Cook staff members. This position envisions, designs, and develops programs that support the spiritual health of staff, fostering a Christ-centered workplace culture, and promoting the organization’s mission and values through exemplary pastoral care.
This position also provides spiritual leadership for our internal staff through devotionals, staff prayer facilitation, spiritual formation encouragement, and retreats in partnership with the Ministry Leadership Team and Human Resources. This position serves as a point for individuals seeking to engage appropriate counseling resources.
This position will enhance the overall well-being of the staff, ensuring they are supported and empowered to fulfill the organization's mission. This role requires a blend of spiritual discernment and insight, empathy, leadership, discretion, judgment, a servant leader’s heart, and a deep understanding of the unique dynamics within a faith-based organization. Furthermore, this role is grounded in and reflective of the ministry's statement of faith, ensuring that all spiritual care initiatives and interactions are aligned with and reinforce the core beliefs and values of David C Cook.
Job Description:
Proactively influence our culture, leading by example in demonstrating collaboration, empowerment, innovation, creativity and service, while being a faithful witness on and off the job of DCC’s mission.
Create and oversee pastoral care programs that address the spiritual well-being of staff. Develop and promote initiatives focused on spiritual health and preventing burnout among staff.
As a member of SLT, contribute to long term planning and vision implementation through identification of spiritual initiatives.
Facilitate access to spiritual counseling and guidance. Develop and implement programs to support staff through personal and professional crises. Clearly communicate to staff members limitations on providing direct counseling.
Cultivate a culture of care, respect, and mutual support within the ministry. Organize retreats, team-building exercises, and other activities to strengthen community bonds among staff.
Actively participate and contribute to ministry wide initiatives and projects like DCC Annual Day of prayer, Daily Prayer, All Team Meetings, All Team Celebrations and Community Service Project.
Qualifications
Position Requirements:
Formal Education: Advanced degree in theology, pastoral care, or a related field required.
Experience:10-12 years experience in pastoral care or a related discipline within a faith-based context. Proven leadership and management experience, preferably in a church, non-profit or faith-based organization. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to develop and implement spiritual initiatives. Deep understanding of and commitment to the organization’s faith-based mission and values.
Specialized Knowledge/Certification: In-depth knowledge of religious doctrines from many denominations, ethics, and spiritual counseling. Ordination by a church adhering to the core beliefs and values of David C Cook is preferred. Working with others – communicates frequently with individuals and groups: attends and leads meetings with individuals, small groups, and large groups. Able to communicate orally and in writing on delicate and personal issues. Exhibit patience, discretion, tact, and good judgment.
Equipment Knowledge: PC/Mac Computers. General Office Equipment.
Working Conditions:
- Comfortable working conditions, handling lightweight, intermittent sitting, standing and walking.
- Working environment – office and co-working spaces with some noise, and proximity to others.
- Detail-oriented work requiring mental acuity and accuracy
- Normal business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) are typical but must have a willingness and flexibility to work during evenings and weekends if/when necessary.
- Some travel may be required.
