Mid-Level Archaeologist

At DEA, we're looking for a skilled Mid-Level Archaeologist to join our Water and Environment Business Unit's Environmental Planning & Compliance (EP&C) team in Boise, ID. Working alongside our interdisciplinary team of environmental experts, you'll help ensure that projects meet rigorous environmental and cultural resource standards while fostering a balance between development and heritage conservation.

As a Mid-Level Archaeologist, you'll engage in meaningful fieldwork and project management tasks, working closely with senior archaeologists and other specialists. Your role will involve a blend of field and office duties that contribute to the successful execution of environmental and cultural resource projects. Your contributions will be essential in helping DEA deliver responsible, high-quality solutions for our clients and communities.

• Cultural Resource Expertise: Conduct preliminary research and manage archaeological fieldwork, including surveys, monitoring, testing, and data recovery, ensuring findings are well-documented in field notes, site forms, and reports. Support the preparation of cultural resource documentation for state and federal compliance, including SHPO and NHPA requirements.
• Project Leadership: Manage small to medium-sized cultural resource projects or lead specific project tasks, working within budgets and schedules to deliver high-quality deliverables that meet DEA's standards of care and client expectations.
• Collaborative Environmental Planning: Partner with design engineers, project managers, and contractors to avoid or minimize impacts on cultural resources while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Business Development Support: Contribute to DEA's growth by participating in business development activities, such as client outreach, proposal preparation, and industry events, including conferences and project presentations.

• Technical Expertise: Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, demonstrated experience in cultural resource laws and regulations (e.g., NEPA, Section 106 of NHPA), and proficiency in GIS and GPS field equipment.
• Field Experience: At least five (5) years of field experience, including Class III surveys, construction monitoring, and testing/phased data recovery. Knowledge of transportation infrastructure projects is preferred.
• Project Management Skills: Proven ability to manage project scope, track budgets, and identify and resolve issues effectively.
• Team Player: A flexible, collaborative approach to working with cross-disciplinary teams, along with a customer-focused mindset and enthusiasm for delivering outstanding service.
• Fieldwork Readiness: Willingness and ability to work outdoors in diverse environments, often traversing rugged terrain, and to travel for short- and long-term projects.
• Commitment to Safety: Awareness of and dedication to workplace safety practices.

• Educational Background: Master's degree in Archaeology or Anthropology with an emphasis in Archaeology.
• Professional Standards: Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology.
• Field Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of field experience, including Class III surveys, construction monitoring, and phased data recovery.
• Supervisory Experience: At least two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity within cultural resource management (CRM), including managing CRM tasks such as budgeting, scheduling, and defining scopes of work.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to cultural resource management, including NEPA and Section 106 of NHPA.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., Survey123 and Field Map) and GPS field equipment.

• Previous experience in transportation infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated experience in Great Basin archaeology.
