David Evans & Associates (DEA) is seeking a Senior Archaeologist to join our Water and Environment Business Unit's Environmental Planning & Compliance (EP&C) practice in Boise, ID. In this senior-level role, you'll join a passionate team of scientists, planners, and historians dedicated to maintaining the balance between nature and progress across the western United States.
DEA's EP&C practice is dedicated to sustainable natural resource management, environmental planning, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations-including the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, NEPA, and NHPA. As a Senior Archaeologist, you'll support our cultural resources initiatives, helping ensure that development aligns with a commitment to preserving the region's historical and cultural heritage. We work with diverse clients, including public municipalities, transportation agencies, utilities, and renewable energy developers, extending our impact across the western U.S.
The Role You'll Play:As a Senior Archaeologist with DEA, you'll bring your expertise to an array of projects, where your responsibilities will span cultural resource surveys, regulatory compliance, and client engagement. You'll be a trusted advisor and project manager, helping our clients navigate the complex landscape of cultural resource management with a proactive, solution-oriented approach. Your work will ensure that our projects meet both regulatory requirements and our high standards of quality, safeguarding the cultural heritage that enriches our world.
Your Impact:- Leadership in Cultural Resources: Lead the preparation of cultural resource documents for environmental permit applications, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements (SHPO, NHPA). Oversee all levels of archaeological fieldwork, from preliminary research to construction monitoring, while mentoring archaeology crews and fostering a collaborative field environment.
- Client-Focused Project Management: Manage cultural resource projects from scope through completion, consistently delivering on time, within budget, and above DEA's quality standards. Maintain a client-first mindset, anticipating needs and striving to exceed expectations with each deliverable.
- Collaborative Environmental Stewardship: Work alongside our interdisciplinary environmental team to support infrastructure projects while protecting cultural resources. Your insight will help our project design engineers and contractors minimize impacts on historical sites, ensuring that development aligns with environmental and cultural integrity.
- Business Development and Thought Leadership: Contribute to DEA's growth by participating in marketing and outreach efforts. Engage in client outreach, assist in proposal preparation, represent DEA at industry conferences, and help shape our future in environmental and cultural resource solutions.

Skills & Expertise We're Seeking:- Technical Expertise: Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, demonstrated experience in cultural resource laws and regulations (e.g., NEPA, Section 106 of NHPA), and proficiency in GIS and GPS field equipment.
- Field Experience: At least eight (8) years of field experience, including Class III surveys, construction monitoring, and testing/phased data recovery. Knowledge of transportation infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Project Management Skills: Proven ability to manage project scope, track budgets, and identify and resolve issues effectively.
- Team Player: A flexible, collaborative approach to working with cross-disciplinary teams, along with a customer-focused mindset and enthusiasm for delivering outstanding service.
- Fieldwork Readiness: Willingness and ability to work outdoors in diverse environments, often traversing rugged terrain, and to travel for short- and long-term projects.
- Commitment to Safety: Awareness of and dedication to workplace safety practices.
- Educational Background: Master's degree in Archaeology or Anthropology with an emphasis in Archaeology.
- Professional Standards: Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology.
- Field Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years of field experience, including Class III surveys, construction monitoring, and phased data recovery.
- Supervisory Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in a supervisory capacity within cultural resource management (CRM), including managing CRM tasks such as budgeting, scheduling, and defining scopes of work.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to cultural resource management, including NEPA and Section 106 of NHPA.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., Survey123 and Field Map) and GPS field equipment.
- Previous experience in transportation infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience in Great Basin archaeology.
