Summary
The Counselor Supervisor is responsible for providing direct supervision of the Senior Counselors. With the guidance of Lead Counselor supervisor will assist in ensuring Title 22 compliance in conjunction with all homes and cottages
Roles and Responsibilities
- Supervise, support and interact with senior, am/pm and night counselors activities for the 24-hour care of undocumented children.
- Hire, train, and coordinate all counselors activities.
- Establish clear work performance expectations, and enforce consequences for all senior counselors disruptive behavior(s) and/or poor work performance.
- Instruct counselors about their job functions, including shift chores and act as positive role model.
- Coordinate unannounced visits to ensure that all DUCO homes are meeting title 22 requirements.
- Ensure all necessary reports, including SIRs, are accurately completed by the senior counselors and submitted within ORR required timelines.
- Coordinate the planning and carrying out of staff training on a regular basis making sure that all staff training needs and requirements are met and documented.
- Provide input and enforce policies and procedures including planning, intervention strategies to be used, admissions and discharges.
- Assist and intervene in crisis utilizing approved crisis intervention strategies.
- Periodically audit UAC Portal to ensure senior counselors are meeting admission/intake timelines.
- Transport clients as needed.
- Administer medication and complete required documentation.
- Secure coverage for planned leave time and unexpected absences of counselors including those on fly out duty.
- Provides regular supervision as well as completes annual performance evaluations for the Senior Counselors and the on-call counselors. Review and sign off on evaluations completed by all Senior AM, PM and Night Counselors.
- Supervise assigned on-call counselors.
- Attend designated supervision with Counselor Supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma with at least 3 years of childcare experience in a residential treatment center and/or group home environment is preferred. Must be able to relate well and provide crisis intervention services to undocumented children. Prior experience as a supervisor is preferred.
- AA/Bachelor's degree in social science from an accredited institution of higher learning is given preference.
- Must be bilingual English/Spanish.
- Must be in good health. Be physically, mentally, and occupationally capable of performing assigned tasks for this class of employee.
- Must meet Title XXII personnel requirements with regards to fingerprints, forms and documents.
- Obtain all other required training.
- Must have a valid California drivers license and good driving record.
- Possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certificates.
- Have and maintain Professional Assault Crisis Training (ProACT).
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
