What are the responsibilities and job description for the Land Surveyor in Training position at David Mason & Associates?
The Staff Surveyor prepares survey calculations, drawings and other project documents based upon information gathered by topographic property/boundary surveys, and records research using AutoCAD and other survey software. May participate in and/or lead quality control or quantity control (QA/QC) checks during various stages of the assigned project(s). May also participate in building project proposals. Typical advancement is based on the quality performance of essential duties and responsibilities. Discretionary advancement is based on employee’s actions and accomplishments. This role provides supervision for Staff Technician team, including training as needed of Staff Technicians.
Essential Duties:
- Understand project work plan to ascertain project objectives, time frame, funding limitations, staffing requirements, allotment of available resources, and procedures for accomplishing project
- Confer with Project Manager and senior project staff to ascertain coordination and critical interface requirements.
- Prepare detailed maps, plats, exhibits, and other project documents to accurately reflect rights-of-way, property and boundary locations, easements, elevations, topography, and existing conditions based upon field surveys and recorded information
- Participate in the drafting and product design documents
- Prepare project documents in accordance with established drafting computer-aided-drafting (CAD) standards
- Perform computer modeling of topographic conditions to develop cross-sections, profiles, and calculations of earthwork quantities
- Perform research and investigation of utility base maps and record drawings to map the approximate location of underground utilities
- Perform calculations and prepare cut-sheets for construction staking and layout of roadways, culverts, sewers, drainage structures, and other improvements as required
- Prepare as-built drawings based upon field observations and measurements
- Coordinates “Scope of Work” between survey crew and Technicians
- Follow and abide by the DMA employee and safety manuals
- Completes required initial and ongoing training as requested by DMA
- Wears DMA branded Safety-Shirts and appropriate PPE when working on-site, in the field
- Completes other duties as assigned

- Required Skills:
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Familiar with AutoCAD, MicroStation and similar software
- Understanding and ability to apply basic Survey Principles
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- An associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is preferred
- 3 years related work experience is required
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
- Professional Land Survey in Training (PLSIT) License in Missouri and/or Illinois is required

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
