You're a recent graduate with a curiosity about how technology works at its fundamental levels. Compared to your peers, you possess an interest in IT concepts, either from your coursework, your student employment, or your own pursuits. You've proven yourself to be an empathetic and curious problem solver, which allows you to get to the root of technical issues. While comfortable working behind the scenes, you’re also enticed by the prospect of representing the IT division and growing your customer service skills by interacting with campus constituents face to face. You're excited about hands-on work that involves both hardware and software, and you're eager to learn practical skills across a wide range of technologies that power a modern campus.
Meet the Field Services team
We're a dynamic team responsible for maintaining and supporting critical network infrastructure and technology services across campus. The Field Services team focuses on supporting infrastructure all over campus for routine, project-based, and emergent needs. Working closely with the Infrastructure & Operations and Academic Technology/Audio-Visual teams, we ensure reliable technology services while providing essential support for campus operations. Here are some things the Field Services team handles:
- Troubleshooting wireless connectivity and network issues
- UPS maintenance and battery backup systems
- Classroom technology support and emergency response
- Equipment deployment and recovery
- Digital signage systems maintenance
- Critical telecom systems support, including call boxes and elevator phones

What You'll Learn and Do
As a Field Services Technology Fellow, you'll gain hands-on experience in a diverse range of technologies while supporting our campus community:
Technology Foundations (50%)
- Learn networking fundamentals through real-world experience with IP addressing, VLANs, and wireless connectivity
- Understand power management by assisting with UPS maintenance and battery backup systems
- Explore audio-visual technology through classroom support and equipment deployment
- Gain experience with enterprise print management systems and peripherals
- Learn about life safety technology systems that protect our campus community
- Develop troubleshooting skills across multiple technology platforms
Infrastructure Support (30%)
- Assist with basic network troubleshooting and wireless connectivity issues
- Help deploy and recover technology equipment across campus
- Support the delivery and installation of peripheral equipment and consumables
- Learn to use diagnostic tools and equipment for problem-solving
Project Participation (20%)
- Contribute to summer infrastructure projects (e.g., network upgrades, AV installations)
- Assist with inventory management and equipment tracking
- Participate in documentation of technical procedures
- Support special campus events with technology needs

Qualifications Required
- Recent graduate (within the past year) or graduating senior
- Interest in learning about technology infrastructure and systems
- Strong communication skills and customer service orientation
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Willingness to perform physical work including carrying equipment (up to 50 pounds)
- Availability during regular business hours
Preferred
- Previous experience working with technology, either professionally or as a hobby
- Basic familiarity with computers, networks, or audio-visual equipment
- Valid driver's license
