General Statement of Duties
This position performs supervision of visits between foster children and their parent(s), may include instructing clients in household management, personal and health care and community living skills; and transporting children and clients in accordance with the case plan developed by the Social Worker with the family.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class is responsible for providing supervision for visits between foster children and their parent(s) as-well-as providing transportation to children and clients in accordance with the case plan developed by the Social Worker with the family. Hours are often non-traditional (outside 8-5) as visits can occur in the evening and on weekends. Children can be located outside the county or state and are transported to and from their placement. This position also supports the team with clerical duties as needed. Works under the regular supervision of the Office Support Supervisor.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Provides transportation, in and out-of-State, to both children in the custody of the Agency as-well-as other clients to ensure visitation between parent and child and to various appointments, as required.
- Supervises, observes and documents interactions between parents/family and the children in the Agency’s custody.
- Intervene, guide or stop inappropriate conversations and/or behavior from the parents/family members.
- Provides assistance to parents/family in appropriate discipline of the child(ren).
- Assists the parents in learning to meet the needs of their infant or disabled child(ren).
- Makes observations to the Social Worker in planning and developing appropriate services for the child and family; documents vital information in compliance with case plans and parental progress toward case goals.
- Provides education to the parents/family and demonstrates parenting skills and positive interactions for parents, personal hygiene skills, self care and personal safety techniques.
- Provides coaching and modeling to parents in cleaning and organizing their home so that the home is appropriate and safe for their children.
- Encourages and helps monitor the progress of the goals and court orders for the parents.
- Shares and convey information about resources in the community to clients.
- Assists in maintaining communication between the Social Worker, parents, schools and the placements of children in the Agency’s custody.
- Documents what happens during visits of families to provide information for the Social Work file; may also include taking pictures.
- May assist clients in completing various types of applications.
- May be called upon to testify about their observations, interaction and involvement with parents and child(ren).
- Completes clerical duties as needed and assigned, including creating and purging files, maintaining files, scanning documents
- Adheres to state, federal, county and department’s policy, rules, and regulations.
- Mandatory emergency shelter duty should the need arise
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform the basic life operational support functions of walking, driving long distances, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
- Medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 35 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must have close visual acuity to work on a computer and driving .
- Worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
- Worker is in contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids during the performance of his/her duties.
- Clients and children can become verbally abusive or threatening an employee
Education and Experience
Demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills, and abilities gained through two years of experience in performing similar instructional and community placement tasks; or graduation from a two-year associate degree program designed to prepare support personnel for human services agencies which includes a six month practice/internship in a similar setting (one year of the above experience may be substituted for the practice).
