General Statement of Duties
Performs routine maintenance and upkeep of the grounds at all County parks.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class is responsible for maintaining the landscaping and cleanliness of all County parks and facilities to provide a safe environment for park visitors and athletic teams. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Coordinator.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Maintains grounds; mows and weed eats; picks up litter and trash.
- Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Recruitment and Selection Guidelines
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to operate mowing and weed eating equipment.
- Ability to clean public restrooms including sweeping, mopping, sanitizing bathroom fixtures, and restocking bathroom supplies, changing light bulbs, picking up outside/inside litter; and disposing of litter.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other grounds staff and the general public.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and repetitive motions.
- Must be agile and able to move about freely.
- Must be able to perform very medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess visual acuity to operate machines.
- Must possess the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned.
- Worker is subject to outside environmental conditions; exposure to temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than an hour.
- Worker is subject to noise.
- Worker is subject to vibration.
- Worker is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts.
Education and Experience
- High school education; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid North Carolina Driver License.
