Salary Range: Grade 60 $32,503.56 - $50,380.50

Location: Welcome, NC

Hourly Rate: $15.6267 per hour

General Statement of Duties

Performs responsible work managing the daily operations of a congregate nutrition site in accordance with service standards.


Distinguishing Features of the Class

An employee in this class is responsible for serving nutritious catered meals, planning informative programs and entertainment at the Southmont Café (Congregate Nutrition site) and referring clients for other services if needed. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Congregate Nutrition Program Manager. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.



Illustrative Examples of Work

- Opens the building and prepares the nutrition site for the day’s meals and activities including, but not limited to, ordering meals and utensils, sanitizing surfaces and preparing food service stations.

- Ensures meals arrive and remain at temperatures in accordance with food service standards.

- Serves catered (prepared offsite) meals; cleans and sanitizes facility afterward.

- Provides client assistance as needed.

- Maintains a daily record of clients who attend the congregate site.

- Registers new clients.

- Secures volunteers, staff, or outside agencies to provide informational and entertaining programming.

- Creates monthly calendar inclusive of a variety of activities and programs.

- Provides (assisted) training to clients on various safety topics.

- Completes various paperwork including, but not limited to, number of registrants and meals served, total amount of contributions collected and volunteer time records.

- Recruits' participation via flyer distribution/posting at area businesses/churches/ civic groups.

- Orders cleaning and serving supplies.

- Makes referrals for clients who need additional services with appropriate agencies.

- Notifies Meals on Wheels volunteers of daily changes to routes.

- Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations.

- Performs other related duties as required.


Recruitment and Selection Guidelines

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Some knowledge of nutrition, sanitation laws and guidelines.

- Ability to work with older adults.

- Ability to plan, implement and coordinate programs to occur at nutrition sites.

- Ability to perform record keeping and reporting requirements.

- Ability to operate a computer, check emails and use software programs.

- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Physical Requirements

- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of standing, fingering, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.

- Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

- Worker must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures.

- Must possess visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

- Worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.

- Worker is in contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids during the performance of his/her duties.

Education and Experience

- Graduation from high school with some experience working at a nutrition site or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses and Certifications

- Valid North Carolina Driver License.
