Experience/ Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in accounting, and/or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Knowledge of applied fiscal laws and regulations and school system policies an procedures concerning fiscal operations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate well with school personnel and central office personnel.
- Applicant must be able to work in a detailed task oriented and confidential atmosphere.
General Job Description
The Finance Specialist is responsible for working in following areas of Payroll, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets and School Finance to ensure appropriate controls and tasks areaccomplished. In this role the Finance Specialist will be responsible for assisting with managing the district level review of schools finances, overseeing the management of fixed assets, monthly payroll and accounts payable as needed or requested.
Essential Job Functions
- Follow all rules, policies, and procedures of Davidson County Schools, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school finance areas.
- Implement administrative procedures, directives, and Board policies related to the Finance Department.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
- Complete monthly school financial reviews and assist with questions.
- Maintains and verifies the data entry into the fixed asset inventory system to ensure conformance with GAAP, federal program guidelines, and the chart of accounts mandated by the NC DPI and the LGC.
- Monitors and maintains a system of controls, procedures and forms for the recording of fixed assets.
- Trains school-based and administrative support personnel on proper accounting and physical inventory procedures for fixed assets.
- Maintain uniform procedures regarding funds collected for the various district and school programs working in conjunction with other administrators.
- Work with individual schools related to district and individual budgets and operations.
- Assists with payroll activities that are not limited to: data input, corrections, processing payroll, and ensuring accuracy of payroll. Review and evaluate accounts payable invoices and registers to ensure proper accounts are utilized and documentation is sufficient.
- Assists with the management of user access for the district core accounting system, school level accounting system and additional financial systems as needed.? Perform state, federal and local financial reporting on a daily, monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Including but not limited to: LGC 203/COLL-91 and School Readiness reporting.
- Oversee and submit Charter School payments in compliance with NC GS 115C-218.105.
- Oversee/Manage implementation of new users and update.
