Title: PAYROLL SPECIALIST
Reports to: CHIEF FINANCE OFFICER
Terms of Employment: 12 MONTHS
Salary: Pay Grade – 65 MINIMUM SALARY $3449.72
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Work generally requires that employees in this class handle day-to-day unsupervised responsibilities that are required to maintain accurate and complex payroll/finance information complexity. Independent of action is required as well as a high level of self-initiative in performing activities. Employees in this classification must have a level of analytical and mathematical skills to make decisions without direct supervision on established guidelines, policies, and rules.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Input employee personnel and payroll data into computer system; verifies, edits data, and makes necessary corrections.
- Maintains confidential records and files of employees and system.
- Maintains accurate records and processes payroll data to insure accurate pay to employees.
- Receives inquiries from school based payroll staff and/or employee: provides information to questions, and requests of employees.
- Secures information via telephone or personal contact; select appropriate answers to questions from guides, manuals, procedures and policies.
- Insures accuracy of timesheets for payroll purposes.
- Provides backup assistance to other roles in the department by cross training of duties.
- Review and edit completed monthly payrolls.
- Process levies and garnishments.
- Process monthly retirement benefits,Disablility, and FMLA paperwork and payments
- Analyze and update current processes and procedures.

Performs other related work as required
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Preferred Associate’s Degree in accounting, and/or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Applicant must be able to work in a detailed task oriented and confidential atmosphere.
- Considerable knowledge of office practice and procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of arithmetic and its uses in payroll and financial records.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by telephone.
- Ability to compile detailed information by providing instructions about departmental programs, procedures, and policies.
- Ability to record information speedily and without errors.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Some positions assigned to this class may require light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
