Davies Life & Health is on the lookout for a Staff Accountant who will be responsible for the management of accounting activities for various clients, such as maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, validating, and remitting tax withholdings, and maintaining documentation on all procedures and deliverables.
As the Staff Accountant, you will communicate frequently with our clients while working with other departments to resolve accounting discrepancies. You will report directly to the Director of Insurance Accounting and will be responsible for building and maintaining effective relationships with co-workers, clients, and vendors to ensure accuracy in all accounting activities. This position requires the ability to accurately maintain a general ledger and ensure compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) as required by our clients.

Key responsibilities include :
Prepare and post journal entries in the general ledgerReconcile cash deposits and disbursements to the general ledger dailyUpload Positive Pay and ACH files to client bank accounts and follow up on exceptionsRespond to check inquiries and stop payment requestsReconcile bank accounts monthlyPerform reconciliation of balance sheet accounts monthly and ensure completion of all client deliverablesPost, track, and settle reinsurance activityCalculate funding requirements on weekly or monthly basisRespond timely to client requests and prepare information in a concise and orderly mannerPrepare quarterly and annual reports as required by clientsReconcile and prepare yearend tax filings such as sick pay statements, 1099s and W-2 formsFollow escheatment of abandoned property proceduresValidate and remit tax withholdings, perform related tax reportingMaintain current documentation on all procedures and deliverable requirementsHandle sensitive information in a confidential mannerDevelop and maintain effective relationships and communication with co-workers, clients, and vendorsParticipate in special projects and perform other related job functionsAssist client with audit requests and any additional information / data requestsSupport company values of We are Dynamic, We are Innovative, We are Connected, and We Succeed TogetherPerform other duties as assignedThis is a full-time, hybrid position, located in Springfield, MA.
Your Expertise, Skills, and Abilities
2-5 years of accounting experienceBachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceProficient with Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite or related softwareStrong analytical and numerical skills with a thorough knowledge of general ledger and account reconciliationInsurance experience strongly preferredAbility to correctly prepare tax reportsExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to manage tasks for several clients dailyAbility to work in a fast-paced environment, both individually and as a team memberExcellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate across the organizationExcellent customer service skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsBenefits
